There are unconfirmed reports that an iconic store in Gaza City was destroyed by a recent Israeli strike.

What’s notable about this is that it’s a clothing store called “Hitler 2” that was quite popular some years ago during one of the Palestinian intifadas.

Back in 2015, violence broke out in the West Bank with Palestinians killing 11 Jews in a 6-week period as a form of “resistance”. Israeli forces responded by shooting 68 Palestinians and both sides claimed that the other was inciting the violence.

At the time, Hamas urged Palestinians to join the “knife intifada”, and Hitler 2 thought that might make a great display — the shop dressed up mannequins in shirts with “Stab!” across the chest, covered the faces with ski masks and keffiyehs, and put Palestinian flags and knives in their hands.

The display was meant as a homage to the stabbing attacks on Israelis by Palestinians.

The IB Times UK interviewed a few young Palestinians outside the shop back in 2015 asking about the store and the display.

Young Palestinians who visited the shop told Reuters they were drawn to the place as a symbol of their solidarity with what they termed ‘the current intifada’, meaning uprising.
“I am looking for clothes to buy, this shop attracted me because it shows the symbol of the intifada (uprising) in the West Bank. This is in support with our people in the West Bank, using the knife, mask and koufeyeh (Palestinian black and white scarf) these are nice things to attract people, it is nice and unique,” said 19 year old Wissam Ashraf, as he was scrutinizing a knife holding mannequin…
…The name ‘Hitler 2’ has also attracted attention, which seems to raise the number of visitors to the clothing store.

“I saw an advertisement on Facebook so I wanted to pass by the shop because of the knife, the keffiyeh and the mask are now symbols for intifada of Al-Aqsa. I want to buy from this shop I like the idea as it is supporting our people in Jerusalem and the West Bank, I like the idea,” said then-20 year old Immad Mharib.

“The name of the shop is ‘Hitler’ and I like him because he was the the most anti Jewish person,” said Hijaz Abu Shanab, who was also 20 at the time. “They have done us wrong, they took our rights in this land and they left us with nothing. It is better for us now to go and die, we are living like the dead. I like the clothes and the name, it is fantastic.”

Reports out of Gaza indicate that the shop may have been destroyed.

If the report is true, then it would be the most perfect form of poetic justice that the only Jewish nation on earth just destroyed “Hitler 2” — a shop that was openly promoting antisemitic violence.

You know who’s going to be the most upset about this, right?

The United Nations.

The question is, will they be bold enough to table a resolution condemning Israel for destrying “Hitler 2”, or is that just too spot on?

We’ll just have to wait and see.
