The flood of migrants into New York City isn’t just straining resources — it’s straining the patience of Mayor Eric Adams.

It’s also affecting his approval numbers.

In an interview with ABC 7 on Sunday, Mayor Adams made it very clear that he lays a lot of this at the feet of the Biden administration.

Mayor Adams has made multiple trips to D.C. to appeal to federal lawmakers for more assistance in dealing with the constant flow of migrants that are being bussed into New York from the Southern border.

He says that the struggle with the thousands of migrants arriving in The Big Apple on a weekly basis is straining resources and it’s simply unsustainable.

He also said that he just can’t understand why the Biden administration won’t address the problem of illegal immigrants.

“I find it baffling because now you are hearing the coalitions that started with Eric, now it has gone to Chicago, Massachusetts, Denver… so many municipalities are joining me and saying this is impacting our city, so I’m not sure why we’re not seeing a response,” said Adams in the interview.

This is what border towns have been saying for years and it fell on deaf ears because it was their problem to deal with.

Now that the migrant crisis is hitting blue cities far from the border — thanks to Republican Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Florida’s Ron DeSantis — non-border towns are getting a little taste of what it’s been like to deal with a massive influx of illegal border crossers and the strain it puts on local resources.

There are now 67,000 migrants living in the city’s shelter system. This is more than triple the 21,300 migrants in NYC shelters at this time last year.

Coupled with inflation and an unaffordability crisis, the resources that are meant to help Americans are instead being diverted to assist people who flouted immigration law and abuse the asylum system.

In another interview on Sunday, Mayor Adams doubled down on his criticism of the Biden admin’s border policy (or lack thereof.)

When asked about the “highs and lows” for 2023, he replied, “the low is clearly 150,000 migrant and asylum seekers that really put a real bump in the road of our recovery effort in the city.” He later stated that the situation will force him to cut city services.

Adams of course took a shot at Republicans for what he says are “not in favor of real immigration reform” but continued on to bash the Biden admin for not giving NYC more cash to care for the federal government’s new dependants.

Here’s a transcript of the clip:

DAN MANNARINO: Let me begin here, though, because when you look at the approval numbers, a lot of it had to do with the migrant crisis, right? You’ve been to D.C. many times. So, again, real talk here. Is it fair to say at this point looking at 2024 no federal aid is coming?

MAYOR ADAMS: I believe that. I believe that Congressman Jeffries and Senator Schumer are really pounding the pavement. I think it’s unfortunate, number one, the Republicans are not in favor of any real immigration reform. And I believe that we are not seeing that this should not be on the backs of New York City; and other cities, because now the coalition has grown.
Remember, I was by myself at one time; now you see mayors of Chicago, you’re seeing Massachusetts electeds, Denver. People are realizing this is unfair to cities across America.

MANNARINO: So, without federal aid— which is not happening, again— you’re anticipating in 2024 more cuts. What do cuts look like in 2024, and can you give me a definitive answer as to one or two what it looks.

MAYOR ADAMS: Well, let’s be clear. What we’re going to have to do is extremely painful. We’re going to have to see how do we deliver services to our agencies all without the resources we normally have. And so there’s a lot of creativity that comes with that, like what we rolled out today of using technology to know where our snowplows are going. We’re going to have to become even smarter and better of delivering a product with less resources.

Adams went on to say that the federal government has “abandoned” the migrant crisis issue.

MAYOR ADAMS: Well, I could have told you that before a poll came out, because I’m in the streets. New Yorkers are angry. They’re angry.

MANNARINO: At you, or the situation?

MAYOR ADAMS: They’re angry at just the totality of where they see this situation has brought us. And you know, beginning of the year and even into the year, they thought this was Eric Adams just opening our city up not looking at the impact of what [is] this crisis. And we had to do a real job of explaining to everyday New Yorkers that the federal government has abandoned this important issue that’s a national issue.
So, they’re angry, and it’s going to come up. I’m the mayor, you know, and so you’re going to point towards the mayor if your trains are not on time, if your trash is not picked up, if you see cuts in services. That is my role. I have to navigate us through this.

If only there was a Border Czar and a capable Homeland Security Secretary who thought that enforcing existing immigration law was something that should be done before searching for “root causes” in Guatemala and Honduras.

And as an FYI — the root cause is that this administration letting it continue.

But don’t think that Adams has seen the light and turned from his Open Borders view — he hasn’t. He takes a typical leftist position — don’t address the issue, just try to mitigate the effects of bad policy.

Adams told ABC 7 that his solution would be to … *checks notes* … send migrants all over the country.

His plan is to essentially make every city a “Sanctuary city” so that all Americans suffers equally from bad policy. How about … No.

Adams, once seen as a potential rising star for the party, took it a step further and suggested he would have the fix – which he says Democrats have ‘underestimated’ – if he was president.
His ‘real decompression strategy’ would ship migrants from the border throughout the country and give them a three-year deadline to get themselves settled.
‘We tell them, “Here’s where you’re going to go for a three-year period to stabilize yourself.”
‘This way, instead of having 140,000 coming here or a thousand coming to Chicago, we’re spreading it out throughout the entire country,’ he added.
Adams says the good would outweigh the bad if you simply spread the migrants around.
‘We have 108,000 towns, villages, cities across America. In my view, many people are dealing with population issues, employment issues and they want migrants and asylum seekers that can work because we are a city and a country of immigrants.’

Oh, okay. So Martha’s Vineyard, then?

Mayor Adams is blasting Governor Abbott of Texas for enacting exactly the same policy that he thinks would work to ease the burden on NYC.

It’s kind of hilarious that the Mayor of New York has that little self-awareness.

Good luck, New Yorkers!
