The Narrative Thus Far …

The current narrative (i.e. the story or the continuation of a train of thought) is getting more and more interesting as we get into the next election cycle.

What “narrative” or “story” are we talking about? Simple: the one they never thought we would notice. The complete destruction of our Constitutional Republic. Notice, I did not say Democracy, because we are not a democracy.

The sub-plot of this narrative has always been the idea of turning the U.S.A. completely socialist. They shy away from the outright use of the word communism since socialism has a less edgier and scary sound. They’ve disguised it as social justice, unionism, affirmative action, equality, equity, diversity, etc., etc.

Without going into a long history lesson, the difference between communism and socialism is the means of control. All communist (or Marxist/Leninist) governments control all systems under a central ruling class. Socialism by contrast allows citizens to share equally in whatever is allocated by a central government. In both systems, however, there is no personal ownership of property or means of production. Both systems are totalitarian, although socialism allows for a bit more personal autonomy.

What we’re seeing now with the awareness of “woke” is the attempt to alter society from the inside out through varied and incremental changes. Think in terms of how language is being altered, how social media and all forms of entertainment are being consumed, and how we are directed to deal with problem areas such as COVID and the environment.

Instead of concerning ourselves about socialism, we are encouraged to understand everything that’s happening is a far more “progressive” way of facing reality. That word is now a synonym for Democrat/Socialist/Liberal.

Barak Hussein Obama was the ultimate Manchurian Candidate*, the ultimate test case to see what we would accept. There’s an excellent book by Aaron Klein entitled “The Manchurian President” (2010) that goes into detail how much of public felt something about him was “off”, and that they had been cheated. The new progressive movement was supposed to be entrenched by Obama. But….

Trump wasn’t supposed to happen.

2016 was supposed to be the start of Hillary Clinton’s first term. Fortunately, she turned out to be about as popular as an outbreak of herpes in a convent. She proudly proclaimed to be a progressive in the mold of Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. She had no problem condemning Christians regarding abortion. And she certainly had no problem selling out her country to the highest “donor” to her Clinton Foundation “charity”. Things were supposed to continue on with what Obama had started.

Trump happened and shattered that narrative.

They hate Trump for many reasons, but mostly because he’s not Hillary Clinton. One thing he definitely is, is proof our Constitutional Republic system works. While Clinton did win the popular vote — 65.8 million to Trump’s 62.9 million — she got only 227 electoral votes to Trump’s 304. (And this, kids, is while we’re told democracy dies in darkness.)

In spite of all the various accusations and impeachments they threw at him during his term; in spite of the 2020 election fraud; and in spite of all the lawfare and unconstitutional attempts to keep him from running again…all we’re hearing about is Trump. He may have broken the flow of their narrative in 2016, but now he’s creating the next one.

The one wild card here is that while all the anti-American forces are focusing only on Trump hatred, it’s not unrealistic to say someone such as Gov. DeSantis could be gaining enough strength behind the scenes to actually win in November. Too early for this kind of thing? Maybe. Who knows though…we’ll see.

One extra thought before winding this up. The woke/progressive narrative has definitely infiltrated the organized church. We’ve all seen some of the examples, especially with the UMC and the Catholic church hierarchy.

Several years ago, I heard that first century Christianity practiced a from of socialism. Those who believe this cite Acts 2:44 and 4:32 as proof since both verses speak of “all that believe were together” and “had all things in common”. Acts was written by Luke in 60 AD during a period of persecution towards Christians in Jerusalem. These believers voluntarily practiced communal living and sharing in order to survive. While persecution was common throughout the ancient world (and still is today…), instances of communal living and sharing were not. The church at Jerusalem was the only one at that time to do so.

Paul’s writing in 2nd Thessalonians makes the importance of personal responsibility and self-reliance perfectly clear in v. 3:10 “…if any would not work, neither should he eat.”

That may sound harsh to the What Would Jesus Do crowd, but it’s a core principle of Christianity, and of a Constitutional Republic. We are all responsible: to God, to our family, our community, and even to ourselves.

If our Constitutional Republic is to survive, the next narrative we create must be themed on responsibility.

In conclusion…

*The use of the title “The Manchurian Candidate” refers to a 1959 novel by Richard Condon. Its plot involves U.S. soldiers during the Korean War who were captured by Soviet commandoes and then taken to Manchuria (China) where they were brainwashed. One soldier in particular was selected to be a sleeper agent who was meant to commit a political assassination that would change the result of our next election. The book was made into a move in 1962, with a remake in 2004.
