Two VERY Different Reactions As Trump Joins Christians In Prayer
Going back to the Founders, leaders asked for the prayers of the people

Maybe this seems foreign to the ‘important people’ in DC or Coastal power centers, but Christians do this all the time.
It really doesn’t matter if the government official is left or right… if a community of believers (of any stripe) has the opportunity to pray a blessing on their leader, whether at the beginning of a term, or on an occasion where that group is paid a visit, it’s only natural to share the best gift they have to share — an appeal for the protection, wisdom, and guidance of God.
This past Sunday, you see an example of exactly that. Christian supporters of Trump were gathered around him and invoking the blessing, guidance, and wisdom of God to help him be the kind of leader that would best serve the country.
It’s rally nothing new. The Apostle Paul admonished Christians to pray for their leaders even when those leaders were hostile pagan Roman emporers with a nasty habit of rounding Christians up before condemning them to a colorful variety of very unpleasant deaths.
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. — 1 Tim 2 ESV
Simon Ateba, the African reporter who is friendly to Trump shared this video:
In case you missed this yesterday, while praying for @realDonaldTrump, the pastors chose one of the most powerful passages in the Bible, "The gates of hell will not prevail against you." Matthew 16:18, angering some on the left. WATCH pic.twitter.com/QpEDirFkD4

He mentioned one of the particular verses that was prayed as a blessing over Trump. The speaker also prayed specifically for protection over Trump and his family, (citing a verse from Isaiah 54), and prayed another verse touching on those who set malicious traps getting caught up in their own traps. Then he pivots, praying that God would help Trump to trust in God, to follow the Lord’s guidance and wisdom, that the nation should be blessed thereby.
If you look at the bottom of that video, you’ll notice Simone found it on another account. One that was hostile to Trump.

As mentioned above, the degree to which we think Trump is or isn’t devout is not the point of a prayer for a leader. We all benefit if our leader is being led by God. It’s kinda the point of that supposedly throwaway line, ‘God Bless America’.
The comment section below the second tweet, if you dare to click through to it, has some of the most self-referential moral preening you will ever find outside of the Pharisees in Jesus parables.
Sadly, the irony of that statement would be lost on most of them.
That reminds me. If you didn’t get a chance to see the last installment of Warriors And Wildmen, Doug and Rich were talking about Phariseeism and some helpful ways not to fall into that ditch.
