Last November’s meeting between President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping included an “assurance” that China wouldn’t interfere in the 2024 Presidential election according to CNN.
It’s just making headlines now because the Chinese foreign minister reiterated the promise to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan this past weekend.
CNN’s exclusive report includes information from “two people familiar with the conversations.” In other words, leaks from the Biden admin.
What is included in CNN’s report is telling — it is the Biden administration that keeps bringing up the topic in meetings.
The previously unreported exchange between Xi and Biden took place during a high-stakes, hourslong meeting in California that was aimed at easing historically high military and economic tensions between the two superpowers.
It was Biden who raised the issue, according to one of the sources, who described the exchange as brief. In a meeting this past weekend in Bangkok with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan again brought up the topic. Wang offered Sullivan the same assurance Xi had given Biden months prior — that Beijing would not meddle in the American election this fall, the source said.
The potential for China to interfere in or influence US elections has repeatedly come up at senior-level meetings between the two nations in recent months, the source who was briefed on the matter said.

It’s giving the same vibes as that time Biden gave Putin a list of 16 critical infrastructure entities that should be off-limits to cyberattacks.
A few months later…
‘IT’S COMING’: Biden Warns Russia Is Planning Cyberattacks Against The United States
But Xi wouldn’t pull a Putin on Biden, right?
I mean, after all, China’s given their assurances that they don’t do that sort of thing.
The Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement, “China’s position has been consistent and clear: We always adhere to the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs. US general elections are US internal affairs and who becomes the next president is up to the American people. China does not interfere in US elections. We oppose making China an issue based on election politics.”
Yeah, just like China doesn’t float spy balloons over the continental U.S. that just happened to coincide with where a lot of the nukes are located nor do they disguise a data collection and propaganda tool as a video sharing app.
The point is moot, since if China did interfere, it likely wouldn’t be to help the GOP. Who do you think Xi would rather have in the White House, the incoherent Shambling Husk of Mediocrity with a family that can clearly be bought, or the Bad Orange Man who imposed sanctions and was looking to ban TikTok?
Oh, and about that whole not interfering in elections bit…
Since 2020, senior Chinese officials have issued broad directives to Chinese operatives to “intensify efforts to influence US policy and public opinion in China’s favor,” and senior Chinese officials have aimed to “magnify US societal divisions,” according to a US intelligence assessment declassified in December. Those influence efforts have included using fake social media accounts to attack US politicians online.
Those directives likely gave Chinese operatives “more freedom to operate” ahead of the 2022 midterms, according to the US intelligence document.
Microsoft warned in September that Chinese operatives had used AI-generated images of the Statue of Liberty and other symbols of American life to mimic US voters online and provoke discussion on divisive political issues.

So, if a hundred thousand or so dollars in unsolicited, Facebook ads aimed at pushing division was a big chunk of the “Russian Collusion” narrative against Trump, do we attribute the same sorts of divisive Chinese ads to “Dark Brandon” — branding that is CCP propaganda — that’s reflected in his own anti-MAGA rhetoric?
I don’t see why not.
Besides, Biden has repeatedly touted his long relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping and has said that he trusts him.
I’m old enough to remember when a President saying reasonably nice things about a leader that has made it clear that America is an ideological enemy would get called “Putin’s puppy.” I guess this makes Biden Xi’s Shih Tzu.
You can shorten that however you like.
Check out Doug’s latest book, The Art of Joe: The Political Brilliance of President Biden. If you have left-leaning family members, workmates, or classmates, buy several copies and place them in common areas. Make sure you have your video camera ready for when they pick it up and thumb through it because they will be triggered which will make for a great viral video to share across social media. Also, buy a couple for the GOP NeverTrumpers that you know. Finally, both the book’s cover and the epilogue, Notable Quotable Joe are worth the price of admission. We’ve included before and after Biden on Afghanistan. Jen Psaki will no likey this book, but you will. BTW, the book is 95% bereft of any content. Just like Biden’s head.
