False Repentance

Doug and Rich on how to tell the real deal from the counterfeit

If it only took a couple of crocodile tears to headfake your way into heaven, Christ never would have needed to go to the cross.

It took something deeper than Jesus waving his hand with a magnanimous ‘never mind, forget it ever happened’ to square the Ledger between God and Man.

Why would we think our correct response should be half-hearted and indifferent?

Again and again through the gospels, through Acts, and again in the epistles, we are hit with a central message of repentance from sin.

Christ didn’t come merely to save us from the consequences of sin, but he also came to save us from the power it held over our day-to-day lives. See: Romans 6:1-4 (ESV)

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

If repentance is the core of the Christian message, it’s worth knowing whether the repentance you have the real deal, or if you are one of the too-many-to-count buttoned-down pious types sleepwalking their way into damnation. Modern-day Pharisees.

There’s a way to know which side of that line you are on.

That’s the point of today’s show.

Lionhearted: Making Young Christian Males Rowdy Biblical Men

Dear young Christian male, this book you’re about to read is meant to challenge you to your very core. Its intent is not to make you feel warm and fuzzy. Some of the chapters will upset you greatly, especially if you’re a dandy who was raised with kid gloves by a helicopter mommy.

That said, in addition to the holy introspection contained herein, this book will also shoot adrenaline into your soul. It’ll push you to be a Godly risk taker and earth shaker. A veritable Rebel With A Cause just like the Captain of Our Salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you want a feel-good book that tickles your ears and morphs you into a little Christian popinjay, this tome ain’t for you. You should put this book down and walk away from it immediately. However, if, young man, if … your motto is to give God your utmost for His highest, and you wanna live a life worthy of Christ’s death, then this book will be grist for your mill.
