It’s one thing to know that Jesus tells us ‘in this world you will have trouble’; quite another to lean into that hard reality.
Our flesh doesn’t LIKE to be challenged. It doens’t WANT to ’embrace the mace’.
But like anything else worth in life that’s worth having… the thing we’re after is on the other side of a challenge.
And nobody promised us we would succeed in our first try… in many cases an easy success would rob us of the greater victory.
But everything hinges on how we RESPOND to a setback, failure, or defeat.
As Solomon put it in the King Jimmy version: ‘For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again’
It comes down to a decision. Will you be like a real-life Rocky Balboa? Will you be too stubborn to ‘know’ when he’s beaten, showing the kind of tenacity where the opponent was left dumbstruck, ‘He’s not human. He’s like a piece of iron’.
Because the success you are REALLY looking for is on the other side of that kind of tenacity. If we had a generation of Christians with THAT kind of battle-hardened courage, there’s nothing Hell could throw our way to slow down the advance of Christ’s kingdom in whichever sphere we moved it forward… because then, the odds would no longer matter.
You just have to outlast The Enemy, and get up off the mat one more time than he does.
