Sometimes A Shepherd Must Tend To The Wolves
With art, and a story inspired by Mel Gibson's 'The Patriot'
There is a time for turning the other cheek and there is a time for taking a bold stand. We need leaders capable of doing each at the correct time.
It’s real easy, in our day and age, to baptize cowardice as a virtue like humility and meekness. This is not a new problem, by any means, but it’s worked its way into many a pulpit.
Here’s a little about the story behind the paintings themselves:
My oil painting, ‘Cowardice’, is from the movie, ‘The Patriot’. It depicts what happened when chicken-hearted Reverend Oliver would not preach or oppose the overreach of King George and his redcoats. It took people getting hung in front of his church and a teenage girl’s impassioned rebuke to finally wake the dear reverend the heck up. Rev. Oliver finally got it and he quit hiding behind his pulpit and said, ‘a shepherd must tend his flock, and at times, fight off the wolves’ and with that, he joined the resistance.
This would be a great gift for your pastor.
