How Social Media Blocked Activists From Turning A Psychopath Into A Martyr

Imagine if Elon hadn’t purchased Twitter… would Sydney Wilson be 2024’s George Floyd election wildcard?

Sydney Wilson’s last moments on earth are documented on video. A police officer’s body cam, to be precise.

Because she was dropped by a police officer’s bullet, it would be easy for activists to tell half of the story and present her to the world as a victim. In a world where such claims get little or no pushback, it would be easy enough to do.

After all, look how they made a ‘victim’ out of Jacob Blake. But 2024 is NOT the same as 2020. And one of the most important differences involves social media no longer marching lockstep to the demands of the political left.

That Georgetown tribute that went up? It got the Community Notes treatment:

Here’s an image of the cop that shot her. Notice the blood coming from his face.

Also, not that it should matter, but since the accusation was raised, the cop is Asian, not ‘white’.

Not only is this more than sufficient to demonstrate he was defending himself against a viable threat but that he exercised restraint beyond what was expected of him… even AFTER he’d taken a knife to the face, Wilson is being given an opportunity to stand down and save her life.

Instead, she charged him with the knife.

Whatever the ‘extenuating circumstances’ including mental health issues might be, that was a decision she paid for with her life.

There are enough real victims in this world, let’s not muddy the waters with pretend ones.

If it weren’t for Community Notes correcting the issue and shaming people into deleting their more inflammatory social media posts, certain cynical political activists would have gladly weaponized it to move the needle in an election.

In a ‘perfect’ country, cynical lies crafted to manipulated public opinion would not have any impact on election results.

In its own quirky way, Elon’s ‘Community Notes’ feature on one of the few big social media outlets has been doing its part to help make this a ‘more perfect union’.
