ANDREW LINN: AOC’s Campaigning (Or Lack Thereof)

Some observations about her re-election run

Election Day is almost upon us. Many races are taking place at the federal, state, and local levels, with the Presidency being the main event. Many people have cast their ballots early, with more doing so on Election Day. Needless to say, the fate of our nation will be determined.

In the midst of the race for the White House there is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a.k.a. AOC), who represents New York’s 14 th District in the House of Representatives. She is up for re-election, and is opposed by Republican candidate Tina Forte. One would think AOC would be campaigning throughout her district. However, she is to be found elsewhere.

Earlier in the fall, she was in Wisconsin, attending an abortion rights rally, despite the fact she is Catholic. She was later in Pennsylvania, trying to get the vote for Kamala Harris.

More recently, she was in Michigan, where she was also trying to get out the vote for Harris, especially among the labor unions. She even referred to Donald Trump as a scab. Never mind the fact that a scab is someone who crosses the picket line. She also referred to Trump as a union buster, even though that is not the case.

AOC has also referred to Trump as a Fascist- something that she has said before. She obviously doesn’t know the definition of the term fascism, which is a system of government characterized by a rigid one-party dictatorship, forcible repression of opposition, private economic enterprise under centralized governmental
control, belligerent nationalism, and militarism. Ironically, the New Deal, after which she named her Green New Deal, was based on the economic policies of Fascist Italy under Mussolini. Obviously, AOC has failed to take note of this fact.

Meanwhile, AOC has criticized the Green Party ticket consisting of Presidential candidate Jill Stein and her running mate Butch Ware as “predatory” and that “people deserve better” because Ware is opposed to transgendered individuals participating in women’s sports. AOC even stated that the changes made by the Biden Administration to Title IX don’t go far enough. I guess AOC is someone who is hard to please. She once stated that FDR’s New Deal was radical just like her Green New Deal. But it appears she is beyond radical. And she appears to be a hypocrite when it comes to women’s rights.

The time AOC has spent in other states suggests that she might have her re-election in the bag. Hopefully that will not be the case.

And hopefully there will be a Red Wave come Election Day.
