Budget Deal Now ‘On Life Support’ After Trump, Elon & Social Media MAGA Reject It

Read the room folks. Nobody is asking for 1500 pages of pork

Less that 24 hours after a 1500 page Omnibus dropped at the 11th hour just before Christmas break with NO time to read or debate it, the shutdown leverage and urgency is backfiring.

Here’s Guy Benson using the phrase ‘life support’ and even ‘cooked’ to describe the current situation with the CR budget bill:

In its current form, it’s dead. If it survives at all, it will not survive in its current form. Which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Social media was humming from the moment it dropped. Folks on the right balked at the sheer size of it and found some of the poison pills they knew would be found in it… including another year of funding for the government organization that has been caught red-handed censoring the political right.

Elon printing out the entire bill and putting a photo of it on social media was a powerful visual callback to Nancy Pelosi’s infamous ‘vote for it to know what’s in it’ line.

An unceremonial dunking from Trump and Vance pretty much finished it off.

A statement from President Donald J. Trump and Vice President-Elect JD Vance:

The most foolish and inept thing ever done by Congressional Republicans was allowing our country to hit the debt ceiling in 2025. It was a mistake and is now something that must be addressed.

Meanwhile, Congress is considering a spending bill that would give sweetheart provisions for government censors and for Liz Cheney. The bill would make it easier to hide the records of the corrupt January 6 committee—which accomplished nothing for the American people and hid security failures that happened that day. This bill would also give Congress a pay increase while many Americans are struggling this Christmas.

Increasing the debt ceiling is not great but we’d rather do it on Biden’s watch. If Democrats won’t cooperate on the debt ceiling now, what makes anyone think they would do it in June during our administration? Let’s have this debate now. And we should pass a streamlined spending bill that doesn’t give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats everything they want.

Republicans want to support our farmers, pay for disaster relief, and set our country up for success in 2025. The only way to do that is with a temporary funding bill WITHOUT DEMOCRAT GIVEAWAYS combined with an increase in the debt ceiling. Anything else is a betrayal of our country.

Republicans must GET SMART and TOUGH. If Democrats threaten to shut down the government unless we give them everything they want, then CALL THEIR BLUFF. It is Schumer and Biden who are holding up aid to our farmers and disaster relief.

THIS CHAOS WOULD NOT BE HAPPENING IF WE HAD A REAL PRESIDENT. WE WILL IN 32 DAYS!

Other options on the table range from a ‘clean bill’ like the one proposed by Vivek, with one page pushing the date on the existing CR forward long enough to pass a real budget under Trump.

They’re listening.

Others don’t want a bill at all, preferring to give Schumer the same shutdown he shoved down Trump’s throat when the House finally passed border funding at the 11th hour, but Schumer shut down the government rather than let it go through… meaning Nancy got to write the next budget instead of Paul Ryan.

This one has a nice ring to it, in a schadenfreude kind of way:

And before you lay the possible shutdown at the feet of Trump… Mike Lee has something to say about who we should REALLY be blaming:

Remember how McConnell and company pushed through a last-minute budget that tied the hands of the incoming GOP House 2 years ago? Nothing much has changed in the uniparty.

But they’re starting to discover that the old-guard establishment is not in charge anymore. The people have a voice again and they sent a President who is willing to hear it.
