Preachers are tempted to leave out the more controversial bits of God’s word… but without them, whatever you’ve got left, it isn’t the gospel.
The wrath of God, for example. There are preachers who’ll go their entire lives, never touching the topic of sin or the wrath it incites.
It’s a little like a doctor who didn’t want to talk about uncomfortable topics like cancer. Avoiding the topic doesn’t make the problem go away, but once you’ve delivered the diagnosis, you can talk about a cure.
