Morgan V Jordan: Are Islam And Western Democracies Even Compatible?

With grooming gangs in the UK, and a homegrown ISIS terror attack in New Orleans, the question of cultural compatibility has bubbled back to the forefront.

Is it possible to live harmoniously with people who want very different things?

Maybe in some times, places, and contexts it has been possible to hammer out an uneasy peace in the past. But can it still work now, in today’s context?

That’s the question Piers Morgan and Dr. Jordan Peterson were grappling with on his show. Piers was defending the inclusivity position, but Dr. Peterson came armed with some very statistics that shed a damning light on the attempt to make this work.

Those statistics are even more shocking when you consider demographic projections like birthrate, even if we were to order a complete freeze on immigration.

PETERSON: 100% of Protestant countries are highly functioning democracies. 6% of muslim countries are democracies.

MORGAN: But do they want to be democracies, though?

Can Western Nations claim to be ‘defending democracy’ at the very same time they are encouraging high levels of immigration with zero expectation of the new arrivals to assimilate culturally?

If Islam specifically rejects Democracy — you don’t even have to know about the other complicated issues to realize that if Islam becomes influential in a Western Democracy, it will become something OTHER than a conventional Western Democracy with established concepts of free speech, gender equality and religious freedom.

Wasn’t the NOLA attacker trying to expressly stoke and inflame conflict between ‘the believers’ (Islam) and ‘the unbelievers’… to the point he was even contemplating murdering his own loved ones in the process?

Either we answer these questions while they are still abstractions, or their answers are forced upon us by the sheer will of whichever group finds themselves in control.

It’s a question whose consequences we will want to grapple with sooner, rather than later.
