Ever wonder how it is that ‘shoes’ can find their way into a catalogue of Spiritual armament?
If you think THAT’s ridiculous, go ahead and picture a soldier running barefoot into battle. They wear combat boots, right? Of course they do!
So, what does it mean to have spiritual combat boots?
What is Paul driving at, exactly?
Plenty of preachers and theologians have taken a run at this passage, but when they get to the ‘feet shod in the gospel of peace’… they tend to fall flat.
Paul saw this as a critical component to the believer’s combat gear.
Doug’s got his own ideas of how properly fits together. Why wouldn’t many preachers and theologians have said the same thing?
Maybe — just maybe — it’s because this explanation is action-oriented in a way that many of those preachers and theologians are not.
God’s word always calls us to something MORE than we were when we first encountered it. Why would this passage be any different?
