HEY DEMS: What Do You Notice About Canada’s Election… And Can WE Do The Same Thing?

In some ways, it's a win. In another way, it's complete vindication for Trump's reform plans.

Yes, the Democrats are gonna be super-stoked that one of their WEF buddies will be following in Trudeau’s footsteps and driving Canada off the left side of the map.

A investment banker and hedgie like him is an unlikely fan favorite for the same leftist crowd that gave us Occupy Wall Street just a few short years ago, but what can we say, they’re a fickle bunch.

His fealty to the WEF and the eco-orthodoxy of the far left is enough to satisfy them. That, and he’s promising to be a ‘resistance’ force against Trump.

Lot of good that will do him if his party’s policies continue to lead the country into insolvency and a possible crisis of alienated provinces declaring independence. But whatevs. The people have (sort of) spoken.

They’ve got a different electoral system than America’s. Like the UK, the Prime Minister is not directly elected. Each riding in Canada puts forward a field of candidates, with whoever gets the most votes (majority is not required) will win the corresponding seat in Parliament. Whichever party has the most seats in parliament gets to have their leader serve as Prime Minister… at least until a vote of non-confidence throws him overboard.

If Canada’s election was held before Trudeau jumped ship, Conservatives would have won easily. But they stalled out, picked a leader, polarized the country against the big bad scary Trump, and closed the government while the Libs picked a new leader. Long story short, the tactic worked. And their new guy won yesterday’s election. Not enough seats for a majority. But he’ll have a minority government.

Fitting: if every circus needs a carney, Canada just elected theirs.

But none of that is the REALLY interesting part for our American friends.

Do you notice that nobody is waiting six weeks for counts and recounts?

They’ve got a simple, tamper-proof federal system that produces same-day results.

And it’s PRECISELY the kind of efficiency that Democrats are fighting so hard to prevent.

For the benefit of any leftists who will cry ‘misinformation and disinformation’, we will provide the receipts.

Canada has a secure voting system. That’s why nobody is fighting extended battles in arguing the results. Even the concession speeches and victory speeches are coming in at a reasonable hour of the night.

The Elections Canada how to vote page gives four methods. Notice, that the election kit is something that has to be requested by the voter, and isn’t sent out en masse to everyone who has ever voted — living or dead.

At the top of the page is this sentence:

To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old on election day, and prove your identity and address.

As for the ballots? They’re old-school.

Here’s how it worked when I voted there yesterday.

Once your identity is confirmed, you are directed to a poll worker at a specific table in your voting location.

That worker has a booklet with ballots in them. One ballot is torn out, folded, and handed to you. You are directed to stand behind a nearby screen, where you can make your selection by marking an ‘x’ in the circle beside the correct name with either a pen or a pencil.

That ballot is folded to hide the choice, and returned to the polling officer, who tears off a small perforated portion of the ballot that most likely contains a tracking number that can prove it is genuine if counted later, while the ballot itself is passed to the voter who personally inserts it into the box, the slot of which remains covered with a lid slightly larger than the slot the rest of the time.

Those paper ballots are counted in small groups. Additional scrutineers are often provided by each political party to ensure objectivity.

The numbers are tallied and the results are reported.

Period.

Of course, there’s still OTHER dirty tricks than can be played… like the one being thrown at Pierre Poilievre, where there are more than 95 candidates whose specific goal is to dilute the vote enough so that the liberal candidate gets ahead of him.

If Democrats REALLY object to the kind of distrust in the election system that we’ve seen in past elections… especially 2020, the solution is staring them right in the face. IDs and paper ballots.

There’s just one problem with that solution. It’s the reason Dems would have to be dragged to it kicking and screaming: It’s really tough to rig something that simple.
