British Court Sends UN Judge To Prison — Here’s WHY Dems Won’t Call That A ‘Threat To Democracy’
When liberal talking points collapse under their own weight, they don't need to be defeated

If America is somehow ‘losing its democracy’ for arresting a judge who has been caught in a criminal act, where is the left’s outrage when a UN judge in the UK isn’t just arrested, but she’s been sent to prison for more than 6 years?
A United Nations judge has been jailed for six years and four months for forcing a woman to work as a domestic slave.
Lydia Mugambe, 50, was studying for a PhD in law at the University of Oxford when police discovered she had a young Ugandan woman at her home carrying out unpaid work as a maid and nanny.
Mugambe, who is also a High Court judge in Uganda, was jailed at Oxford Crown Court on Friday after she was found guilty of modern day slavery offences in March.
In sentencing, Judge David Foxton told the defendant she “showed absolutely no remorse” for her actions and she had looked to “forcibly blame” the victim for what happened. — BBC
Before the left starts whining about racism, both the convict, and the victim were black Ugandans. But one of them had an Ivy League education, served as a Judge on behalf of the UN, and was studying at Oxford at the time. Her husband was similarly charged, but Uganada did NOT waive the diplomatic immunity that protected him.
Mugambe committed a heinous crime. She was charged, convicted, and imprisoned. Would it matter if her crime was drunk driving, wire fraud, or even running a dogfighting ring? No. A serious offense was uncovered, and justice followed.
The BBC reported Mugambe’s conviction, but U.S. liberal outlets haven’t spun it as ‘tyranny.’ Contrast that with America, where liberals rally behind judges facing accountability for breaking federal law.
Mugambe’s case proves judges aren’t above the law worldwide, yet in the U.S., Democrats cry ‘threat to democracy’ when judges like Hannah Dugan and Joel Cano face charges. On April 25, 2025, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested for obstructing federal agents attempting to detain Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal immigrant, by misdirecting them and helping him flee through a “jury door”. Around the same time, New Mexico state judge Joel Cano and his wife, Nancy, were charged with aiding an illegal immigrant, Juan Morales-Garcia, by providing fraudulent documents to evade deportation.
Senator Amy Klobuchar led the liberal defense of Dugan, tweeting on April 25, 2025: “This is not normal. The Administration’s arrest of a sitting judge in Wisconsin is a drastic move that threatens the rule of law. While we don’t have all the details, this is a grave step and undermines our system of checks and balances”.
Protests erupted in Wisconsin, with some Democrats echoing Klobuchar’s claim that Dugan’s arrest threatens judicial independence. They argue it’s ‘not normal’ for judges to face arrest, which is half-true. We expect exemplary behavior from judges, but lawbreakers must answer for their actions.
The accused judges can dress up their motives with lofty words, but like anyone, they’ll face a judge or jury. If liberals want ‘threats to democracy,’ they should look at agencies abusing power, not judges or politicians facing justice.
Speaking of politicians, recent scandals drive the point home. It’s not ‘normal’ for a congressman to commit identity theft or a senator to pocket gold bars from foreign nationals, but when they do, the public demands consequences. George Santos and Bob Menendez prove it:
Parties compared, for a handy reference:
DEMOCRATS:
Sen Menendez: Convicted of corruption July 16, 2024. Announced he was stepping down a week later, on July 23rd. Finally left office on August 20th, fully five weeks AFTER his conviction.
REPUBLICANS:
George Santos: Pled guilty August 19, 2024 (one day before Menendez left office). Left office December 1, 2023… 37 weeks BEFORE accepting his guilt.
When the public sees malfeasance, we get angry when it seems like someone ‘got away with it’.
But arrest a judge (or two) conspiring to obstruct justice and what do we see out of the left? Out come all the usual talking points about tyranny and muh norms.
Leave it to a liberal to think our legal process is ‘problematic’.
After all, that’s the party that waited until weeks AFTER the conviction on his SECOND criminal corruption trial before expecting him to relinquish his senate seat.
