EPIC: Dems’ Favorite NATO Never-Trump Talking Point Gets Nuked From Orbit … By NATO!

Isn't it sad that Biden thought 'America's back' actually meant something when he said it?

How embarrassing must it be for Team Biden to see NATO itself torch the legacy Biden tried to build for himself… by saying TRUMP made NATO stronger?

In Biden’s funhouse-mirror view of history, he ‘saved NATO’ from Trump.

He wasn’t alone in pushing that narrative, either, he had plenty of help from the usual media suspects. Here’s how the BBC reported a NATO meeting while Biden (or his Autopen, anyway) was still running the show back in 2024:

While the host Joe Biden has presided over a message of unity from the group’s 32 members, the Nato-sceptic views of his rival for power, Donald Trump, have imbued conversations here with an urgency and an anxiety.

At times the smiles from world leaders in the conference hall have felt fragile. Trump “hangs over every conversation here”, said one Eastern European diplomat who asked to remain nameless.

The Republican’s election as president in November “could change everything”, the diplomat said. The fact that Mr Biden has been trying to fend off a political crisis over his frailty has only sharpened the sense that a second Trump term could bring far-reaching changes to an alliance forged in the ashes of the World War Two and still reliant on hard US military power to deter adversaries. — BBC

Jennifer Rubin, when she still worked for WaPo, gave a characteristically fawning description of Biden’s role with NATO about a month after Putin’s invasion:

Media coverage finally seems to have caught up to reality. The New York Times now proclaims in a headline, “Biden resets America’s relationship with NATO after the Trump years.” The Times compares that with Trump’s trip to Europe in 2017, which it describes as “a moment of discord and division, sowed by a U.S. president who was openly disdainful of NATO’s collective responsibilities and more interested in ‘America First’ than he was in global unity.” — WaPo, March 24,2022

To hear the left tell the story, Trump was going to be the death of NATO.

Now, let’s hear what the General Secretary of NATO has to say about the REAL impact Trump has had on NATO… both in his First term (the results of which Biden was more than happy to take credit) and more recently since he returned to office.

If anyone would have an idea of Trump’s impact on NATO, you might think it would be their General Secretary.

For anyone who didn’t click through to the video, here’s a quick summary:

The GenSec praised Trump for how he handled events in Iran, not just in removing the nuclear proliferation threat, but also by managing the conflict so that it didn’t boil over into a full-scale war, better still, he managed to get the cease-fire established between Israel and Iran. ‘You are a man of strength, you are also a man of peace’.

Then he pivoted to NATO itself, and the new spending targets:

‘Without President Trump, it would not have happened. In three stages.’ [In his first term] ‘you forced Europeans and Canadians to pay more. At this moment, result of THAT phase, is 1 Trillion extra aggregate defense spending by the Canadians and Europeans. Then came phase II, when you became president in January of last year. Phase two is, all of the countries not yet on 2% have committed to the 2%. This is the old goal from Wales in 2014. This year, all of them have now committed to the 2%.’ Not some time in the future, but now.

Today, we’ve all decided to go to 5%. […] but also because it’s fair to equalize with the United States. With this 5%, the Canadians and the Europeans will equalize their defense spending with the United States, so this is not about American taxpayers paying more, but it’s about Europeans, Canadians paying more.’

Again, this would not have happened — and I’m really saying this here — and some people might criticize me, but then when I speak with them they all say yes you are right, is this would not have happened if you had not been elected in 2016, and re-elected last year and back into office in January, so I want to thank you
