Last week Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City.
So who is Zohran Mamdani? He was born in Uganda on October 18, 1991, and
after living in South Africa, immigrated to the United States with his family at age
seven.
After graduating from high school, Mamdani attended Bowdoin College, where he
co-founded a chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)- an organization
known to be anti-Israeli and thus anti-Semitic. After graduating from Bowdoin
College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Africana Studies, he became a
foreclosure prevention and housing counselor. He later launched a career as a
rap/hip-hop artist.
Starting in 2015, he helped campaign for several candidates. In 2017, he joined
the Democratic Socialist Party.
In June 2020, Mamdani defeated incumbent Aravella Simotas in the Democratic
primary for New York’s 36 th State Assembly District. He went to be elected to the
State Assembly in the general election of that year without any Republican
opposition. Mamdani would be re-elected in 2022 and 2024, facing no
opposition.
On October 23, 2024, Mamdani announced his candidacy in the 2025 New York City mayoral election. His platform included the following:
- Free city buses
- A rent freeze in rent-stabilized housing
- The establishment of five city-operated grocery stores in an attempt to drive down the price of groceries
- Universal child care
- The construction of 200,000 housing units
- Public Safety reform
- Implementing a $30 minimum wage by 2030
- Increased taxes for corporations and anyone earning $1 million or more annually
- Vowing to abide by the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, even vowing to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited New York City.
In addition to this platform, Mamdani supports the idea of New York City being a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, advocates Green Energy policies, and supports the protection (as well as the expansion) of gender-affirming care.
Needless to say, Mamdani is a socialist and anti-Semite. Because of his socialist beliefs, he was endorsed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders. And due to being Muslim, Mamdani has called for “globalizing the intifada”.
Should Mamdani be elected mayor, he will be the first Muslim mayor of New York City. Will he try to enact sharia law (in addition to his socialist policies) for the Big Apple? What are his thoughts on 9/11, and will he attend any events that commemorate that tragic day?
Hopefully, Mamdani will be defeated come November 4.
