Angry Leftist Has Thoughts About DC Getting Tough On Crime… Gets SMOKED By Reality
Some fantasies are easier to believe when you're locked in a silo where everyone agrees with you
When was the last time you saw one of these politicians basing her objections on the merits of a case rather than innuendo and emotion?
If you were wondering why the political left no longer had the hammerlock on the automatic vote support of demographics they could once take for granted, you need look no further than the growing distance between the official opinions of leading voices and influencers among the Dems and the ‘lived experience’ of the average citizen they claim to represent.
When news broke that Trump would be invoking a clause in the legislation for DC Home Rule that allows the Executive Branch to take control of policing, Simone Sanders reacted to the question of increased police presence by invoking — you guessed it — race.

Joe Scarborough asked Simone Sanders directly: ‘you don’t think more police make streets safer?’
Without missing a beat, she answered, ‘Uh, no, Joe. I’m a black woman in America.’
Of course, her contempt and distrust of police makes assumptions that the narratives that held sway five years ago are still guiding public opinion today. They happen to be the sort of assumptions that do not survive meaningful contact with reality.
For one, she has a baseline assumption that America is worse than other countries for the problem she personally has in mind with the police. Second, she made the connection between police and being black, invoking every image associated with the BLM riots of 2020. Finally, she draws a very specific and controversial conclusion between the number of police needed to maintain order in a low-risk neighborhood as compared to another neighborhood with higher risk factors in which more policing provides an actual social benefit.
Of course, the people most at risk in the sorts of high-risk neighborhoods she makes reference to happen to be the people who live there, who have the misfortune of finding themselves on the wrong side of robberies, carjackings, sexual assaults or domestic abuse for instance.
As it turns out, many of those people DO want police protection, and race has little to do with it.
A Gallup Poll released this May caught a snapshot of the changing views of the same demographic.
Confidence in Local Police
Black adults’ confidence in their local police force is up six percentage points since last year, to 64%, the highest point in four years of measurement, while confidence among White adults is 77% and 74% among all U.S. adults. In Gallup’s measurements since 2021, Black adults’ confidence was lowest in 2022, at 55%.

Satisfaction With Relationship Between Local Police and Community
Separately, Gallup finds that 64% of Black adults are satisfied with the relationship between the police and their local community, which has edged up three points since 2023 and five points since the low point in 2022. U.S. adults’ satisfaction with local police’s relationship with their community is 76%, while White adults’ is 81%.

Belief That Local Police Treat People Like Them Fairly
At 67%, Black Americans’ belief that local police treat people like them fairly is four points higher than in 2023 and up nine points since 2022. Still, those improved figures are 18 points lower than all Americans (85%) and more than 20 points lower than White Americans (90%).
Sanders may THINK she has the authority to speak for ‘all’ black Americans. But since at least 2/3 disagree with her…? Maybe she should sit this one out.
