God Greatly Uses Those Religion Despises

The button-down types are so often shocked by who God chooses to answer the call

Walk into any crowded room and pick out that one guy you think God could not *possibly* use for His purposes, and you have just described most of the people God called into his service.

Peter’s a pretty big deal, right? His first encounter with Christ was telling him to leave him alone because he was a sinful man. Hardly the guy you’d pick to shepherd an infant church through hostile territory, but here we are.

And Paul, the guy with the Ivy League theological education of his day? God interrupted a mission that was equal parts Inquisition and Police State Goon Squad to blind his eyes until he saw a whole new purpose in his life.

God doesn’t need ‘good guys’ for his mission. He needs people bold enough to do what He says and go where He says to go… even if it costs them something that more ‘respectable’ people couldn’t dare to part with.

Maybe it’s a comfortable life. Maybe it’s the opinion of others. Maybe it’s that chance at promotion. Maybe it’s life itself.

Like the prophet Samuel discovered when sent to annoint a successor to Saul — David’s own family didn’t bother calling him in from the fields, because they all knew that whichever of the brothers Samuel had come to see, it couldn’t possibly have been David, the afterthought.

They were wrong about how they judged him. And so was Samuel. God looks at a lot more than what we think.

What’s that mean for you and me?

Well, if we can pick up what God’s putting down here, quite a lot, actually.

But you’ll have to click ‘play’ to see what we mean.

While you’re at it, check out the book Doug held up at the top of the show, it’s his latest book release, The Bible and Hunting, and the book blurb that goes with it:

The Bible and Hunting

If a person looked to Scripture and paid particular attention to the passages within the Bible that address the topic of hunting, then they’d walk away thinking not only is hunting animals tolerated but it is endorsed by God. And that’s exactly what this little book is about: proving that God, from Genesis to Revelation, is extremely cool with hunters and hunting. I’ll go out on a biblical limb and claim right off the bat that you cannot show me, through the balance of the Bible, that the God of the Scripture is against the responsible killing and the grilling of the animals He created. ~Doug Giles
