How You Gonna Pay For That? Changing Payment Options In A Changing World
Op-Ed by Andrew Linn

Payment methods. There are various ways to pay for various goods and services. And in the digital age, more methods have emerged.
Paying in cash and/or change is one of the oldest methods. Today, there are some businesses that take only cash.
Writing a check is another way. Some businesses accept checks, while others do not. In addition, there are some businesses that only accept payment cash or check. Of course, problems arise if the check bounces.
Money orders are another way to pay for something. It is the equivalent of writing a check, except that you don’t need a bank account.
Then there is paying by credit card, as long as you don’t max out your credit. Paying by debit card is quite convenient. It is the equivalent of writing a check, except you don’t have to show you identification, nor do you have to wait for it to clear (if you have enough money in the bank then you shouldn’t have any problems).
Another payment method would be a wire transfer, as long as there are sufficient funds.
Another method would be an automatic withdrawal from one’s bank account, provided that there are sufficient funds in one’s bank account.
Bartering goods and services is a convenient payment method, not to mention one of the oldest payment methods throughout history.
People use these payment methods in a variety of ways. Sometimes, they will do so by paying in person, whether it be buying goods at a store, paying for a meal at a restaurant, paying for gas at a gas station, or going to the local utility to pay one’s bill.
Mailing a check as payment is another way. Hopefully the check will not get lost in the mail. Of course, relying on this method requires constantly purchasing stamps and envelopes.
Paying for something online (with a credit or debit card) or via automatic withdrawal is quite convenient and more popular, provided the website has the proper security in order to ensure safe transactions. Online security concerns (or perhaps just being old fashioned) are why some people choose to pay in person
or mail a check.
These days, using a credit or debit card is becoming increasing popular, whether it be at a store or online. These methods, along with automatic withdrawals, ensure a faster way of paying for goods and services.
In short, having a variety of ways to pay for goods and services is convenient, regardless of an ever-changing world.
