HILARIOUS: Nicole Arbour Clowns On Melodramatic Hurricane Forecasters
There's a reason Nicole is a fan favorite among our readers, (and it's not just her pretty face)
If you ever get to the stage in your life where Nicole Arbour is doing a comedy bit about your choices? You’ve taken a really wrong turn somewhere. This time, she’s taking on… hurricane reporters? Yep!
By now you may have heard that there’s a big storm barreling down on Jamaica. Cat Five hurricanes are no joke. Just ask anyone who remembers what Katrina did to New Orleans, for example.
Hurricane Melissa, now a powerful Category 5 storm, is bearing down on Jamaica and is forecast to be the worst storm in the island’s history.
Melissa is set to bring catastrophic winds, rain, flooding and storm surge to Jamaica, where residents and tourists are sheltering in place. Landfall is expected early Tuesday morning.
The National Hurricane Center said in a bulletin early Tuesday that Hurricane Melissa “is expected to reach Jamaica and southeastern Cuba as an extremely dangerous major hurricane, and will still be at hurricane strength when it moves across the southeastern Bahamas.” —ABC
Notice that even ABC can’t help themselves but slip into some sensationalism with ‘worst in island’s history’ framing. Simply put, we don’t actually KNOW how damaging it might be until AFTER the fact.
If you look at the records, we’re all getting hit by the big storms pretty regularly.
And those who know the big one is coming their way prepare for it. By building homes out of concrete and installing hurricane shutters, or hurricane-rated impact glass for example. Drainage overflow systems or sometimes canal systems are built knowing that flooding from heavy rain and storm surges are both serious problems to be reckoned with.
The fact that this storm could pack a punch does nothing to predict how ready the island nation is to TAKE a punch. And THAT is what Nicole is taking a (really funny) poke at with all of the weather forecasters hitting panic mode.
