Ask Yourself: Can Someone Be ‘Proudly Islamophobic’ WITHOUT Harboring Any Hatred?
An Op-Ed by John DeGroff

Let’s start with a simple premise. Being Islamophobic does not mean hatred. Sure it sounds like it, but by taking a look at the suffix -phobic, a better understanding of the term will emerge.
The dictionary definition of the word phobia is varied somewhat, according to use. It can mean an exaggerated, inexplicable, illogical fear of an object, a group of objects, or a given situation. Taken from the Greek word phobos, it can also mean intense fearing of something specific; intolerance or aversion; lacking affinity towards something or someone; dread, loathing or overwhelming anxiety.
A medical diagnosis, as found in the recent version of the Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), lists specific phobias. These can include such things as panic attacks; fear of water, heights, animals; and PTSD. Clinically, part of an accurate diagnosis is that the fear (phobia) must be out of proportion to the actual threat. This is where the consideration comes from that many phobias are therefore irrational fears.
The problem with calling some fears/phobias completely irrational is an entirely subjective viewpoint however.
In other words, what causes some to have intense fear, anxiety, etc., might not affect others. The fear is not irrational to the person who has experienced a situation that causes that fear. Saying something is irrational is a judgment call.
This is where Islam comes into the picture. Islam’s 1400+ years of history have left a trail of reasons for anyone to fear its encroachment into any nation or society.
The prophet Muhammed, founder of Islam, was born in Mecca in 570 A.D. He was 40 years old when he received his “revelation”. By 622, he arrived in the city of Medina and came into his true power through raids and battles with those who did not believe. By 627, he was in Mecca and from there Islam conquered the Arab world, the Levant, and invaded North Africa.
Although Muhammed died in 632, his followers had invaded Europe through the Iberian Peninsula (Spain). In an attempt to invade further north into Gaul (France), they were defeated by Charles Martel, grandfather of Charlemagne, at the battle of Tours. This saved Christian Europe from Moslem invasion at that time.
A rough translation for the word Islam is submission. This is where the concept (to Moslems) that Islam is the “religion of peace” comes from. You either submit, pay a heavy tax burden (called the dhimmis or jizya), or die. There are no other choices.
So, it’s a logical question to ask, is it irrational to fear this type of mindset? To many on the Left, it’s an act of religious discrimination to even question Islam. After all, we have religious freedom here, right? It’s one of the four enumerated rights found in the First Amendment after all.
“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibit the free exercise thereof.”
The very wording of that section of the First Amendment is what causes the schism between Islam and American values. We permit Moslems and Islam to be here, as is their right. However, were they to take over completely, the very nature of Islam would “prohibit the free exercise” of any other faith. That is the history of Middle Eastern countries except Israel, as well as large portions of Africa; and Islam is now encroaching into Europe as well as Australia and parts of Asia.
Since 9/11, there has been an increase of Islamic immigration to American cities such as Minneapolis and Dearborn, MI, which is now the first Moslem majority city in the U.S. Texas has faced an Islamic challenge to American values. The last few years have seen an increase in Antisemitism and anti-Christian activities on college and university campuses nationwide.
We now have four Moslem members of Congress: Andre’ Carson (D-IN), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Lateefah Simon (D-Cal.). Along with Dearborn, there are also significant numbers of Moslems in state and local governments.
Perhaps the most troublesome, recent official is NYC Mayor elect Zohran Mandani. While definitely a Moslem, he’s also an ardent Communist. When you think about it, though, those are two totalitarian ideologies that don’t mix. That’s one of the reasons the Russians got their red heinies handed to them when they invaded Afghanistan in the 1980s. (It’ll take some digging, but look it up.)
Another reason to be phobic about Islam is this: the worldwide birthrate among Moslem majority countries. Globally, Islamic women have 2.9 children compared to the U.S. rate of 1.6 births per woman. Europe is in even worse shape, with an average of 1.4 births per woman.
Speaking of Europe, almost in its entirety, it’s become the saddest example that multiculturalism doesn’t work. This column has previously mentioned the book “The Strange Death Of Europe” by Douglas Murray. There is no better cautionary wake-up call for Western civilization.
In conclusion…
As Christians, we cannot support Islam in any way. God never rescinded His promise to Abraham: “I will bless them that bless thee and curse them that curse thee.” (Gen. 12:3) Having just read that, consider the following:
Allah’s messenger said, “The hour will not be established until
you fight with the Jews, and the stones behind which a Jew
will be hiding will say ‘Oh Moslem! There is a Jew hiding
behind me, so kill him.'” (Sahid al-Burkari 2926, Book 56,
Hadith 139)
A Hadith is the recorded sayings, actions and approvals of Muhammad. They are considered a secondary source to the Quran. Hadiths are meant to be a practical example of the teaching of the Quran, and are the basis for Islamic law, religious practice, and moral guidance and conduct. (…”moral”? really?)
Further examples of why Christians should not support Islam in any way are found in the very words of Christ.
“If the world hate you, you know that it hated me before it hated you.” (John15:18)
“Suppose ye that I have come to give peace on earth? I tell you nay, but rather division.” (Luke 12:51, also Mt. 10:34-36)
Draw your own conclusions if you wish, but with Islam you have a “religion” that specifically mentions that those who belong to another religion are to be killed. That is not “peace”. We can no longer be “go along to get along” believers. We have to stand up against what is coming toward us, from the world and, unfortunately, from some of our own.
