Here are some of the top stories for 2025:
Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term as President of the United States, and soon implements a series of changes, including a crackdown on illegal immigrants, establishing tariffs, and reversing the policies of the Biden Administration. He also ordered bombing raids on Iran and Nigeria, and is seeking to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
The Los Angeles area experiences its worst wildfire ever- its cause not just being the result of drought and strong winds (as well as being set accidentally), but also because of a lack of water from the reservoirs (which was removed to save a species of fish, which in turn was a result of an environmental policy). In addition, the Los Angeles Fire Department had its budget reduced, as well as implementing DEI policies, both of which made it difficult in putting out the fires.
Pope Francis died the day after Easter. A little over two weeks later, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago is elected Pope, and takes the name Leo XIV. He is the first Pope from the United States.
A former American soldier turned jihadist named Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar rammed a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day. He was then killed in a shootout with the police. This act of terrorism resulted in fourteen deaths and 57 injuries.
Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk is assassinated in Utah by Tyler Robinson. Robinson, who is a leftist in a relationship with another man who identifies as a woman, will face the death penalty if convicted.
Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City. As a socialist, he plans to provide free bus transportation in the Big Apple, as well as establish city-owned grocery stores. In addition, he is Muslim and anti-Israeli, thus causing concern among the Jewish population within New York City. At any rate, he will most likely run the Big Apple into the ground.
The following people died in 2025: Jean-Marie Le Pen, Bill McCartney, Bob Uecker, Dick Jauron, Gene Hackman (and his wife Betsy Arakawa), Michelle Trachtenberg, Junior Bridgeman, George Foreman, Richard Chamberlain, George Wendt, Hulk Hogan, Ozzy Osbourne, Val Kilmer, Phil Robertson, David Horowitz, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Terence Stamp, Robert Jay Lifton, Ron Silverman, Lorreta Swit, Diane Keaton, Martha Layne Collins, Dick Cheney, Diane Ladd, James Watson, Briggite Bardot, and Peter Arnett.
2025 has been somewhat of a topsy-turvy year. Hopefully 2026 will be better.
Happy New Year.
