Skydivers Snagged America’s Flag World Record… Trump’s NASA Pick Helped Snag It Right Back

If you thought we'd stand still while Benghazi, of all places, stole our bragging rights... guess again!

Libya got to hold the world record for just a few short weeks before Americans went out and took it right back where it belongs.

As if Americans were going to take that standing down… on the last lap before we all celebrate America 250, right?

On the 5th of October, Libya entered the Guinness Book of World Records by flying the largest flag ever flown during freefall… over where else, but Benghazi. As if we don’t already have enough reason to dislike that particular patch of dirt. They went ahead and took America’s world record.

From the Guinness website.

The largest flag flown while in freefall (skydiving) is 171.46 m², and was achieved by Skydive Benghazi (Libya), in Benghazi, Libya on 5 October 2025.

Skydive Benghazi achieved this record title with the flag of Libya.

Unacceptable.

For anyone at home wondering what the hell ‘square meters’ are, that flag measures about 1,845 square feet.

Cue that Michael Jordan ‘took it personally’ meme. Because that’s pretty much what happened.

But it wasn’t Jordan, so much as Retired Army Ranger @JarikoDenman. He heard the news, got some of his buddies together, and decided to do something about it.

One of his buddies just happened to be Trump’s pick to be the next guy to run NASA. Another happened to be elected Republican Senator from Montana, Tim Sheehy.

They got together. Got their hands on a big@ss flag, and took to the sky… fittingly enough, on December 7th, and DID something about it.

And they will need to update that record page. (Again.)

Here’s the video, as posted by Nick Sortor.

Just HOW big was that flag? As I said, they took that Libya thing personally, and they made a statement.

The October record size was 1,845 square feet. These guys are from the school of ‘go big or go home’. The NEW record size is 3,200 square feet. Nearly DOUBLE the previous size, and bigger than a lot of people’s homes.

Why? Because ‘Merica, that’s why!

As Sen Sheehy described it on ‘X’:

Proud to be part of the incredible team of Americans and veterans that included a SEAL, EOD, Ranger, fighter pilot, astronaut, and some of the best skydivers in the world who returned the world record for the largest flag ever parachuted out of an aircraft back to the USA.

There’s no question about it: this record belongs on American soil, and setting it alongside this great team of patriots is a fitting way to kick off the celebration for America 250 next year. 🇺🇸

He included a couple of photos. The moment itself, obviously:

The team that brought the record home:

Because at a moment where so many want to dunk on America, some of us still like the feel-good stories that bring us back together.
