While Officials Deny Atrocities, Delegation Takes Armored Car To See Displacement Camps Firsthand

It shouldn’t be a difficult question to answer, either Christians in Nigeria are the targets of systematic genocide, or they are not. And if they are, US foreign policy should be adjusted accordingly.

As ClashDaily has been reporting for years, the kidnapping for ransom (or worse) and murder of innocent villagers in Nigeria is a long-standing problem. Even Obama briefly acknowledged it in the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ days, before he cut off discussions of anti-terror aid because Nigeria refused to accept the LGBTQ and abortion agenda that came with it.

Once Biden was in office, his team almost immediately reversed the ‘Country of Particular Concern’ designation Trump had attached to it for exactly this reason. This year, Trump has reinstated that designation. Like anything else he does, it came with a great deal of pushback.

A Canadian paper summarized the issue this way as part of a longer issue critiquing Western Silence on the issue.:

Even though the statistics on Nigeria’s murders are disputed, a prominent NGO called Intersociety, which is respected by the 1.4-billion-member Catholic Church and many secular groups, says an average of 32 Christians are killed in Nigeria every day.

A recent Intersociety report said as many as 7,000 Christians were massacred across Nigeria in the first 220 days of 2025. Intersociety said at least 185,000 people — including 125,000 Christians and 60,000 moderate Muslims — had been killed in Nigeria since 2009 by Islamic extremist groups.

In September, American TV host Bill Maher flagged the African persecution story to his large audience, saying: “They are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria … No one will talk about it.” Maher, an atheist, criticized the media for ignoring the atrocities in Nigeria. — Vancouver Sun

Officials in Nigeria have, not surprisingly, disputed the severity of the issue. But the bodies are real enough. With Trump signaling he wanted to raise this as a priority for his foreign policy, it should come as no surprise that members of Congress went on a fact-finding mission to determine first hand what’s really going on over there.

Unlike the junkets that elected officials so often like to go on that just happen to include either tourist destinations, or countries they want to be seen visiting for political street cred (Ukraine comes to mind), nothing about this trip involved glory or fine dining. In fact, it included an armored vehicle and a security detail as they visited a displaced persons camp.

Nanbam's husband and 40 others were killed by fulani terrorists in their community in the middle belt.

Immediately after, they called her with the husband's phone demanding that she marry one of them and convert to Islam.

They took the murdered husband’s phone, called the wife, and warned her that if she did not marry one of the attackers and convert to Islam, she would suffer the same fate.
