SIMPLE PLAN: Should The GOP Copy From DeSantis’s Homework?

Have you noticed how the younger generation no longer invokes the ‘white picket fence’ as shorthand for the American Dream? DeSantis has a plan that could reverse that.

Better still, because his plan encourages putting down roots and being invested in a local community, this plan could help swing that pendulum back toward some of the big thinking that helped build America in the first place.

He’s posing the question so many of us have asked: why are homeowners ‘paying rent’ to the government for a house that’s been long-since paid off, with the chance of having it repoed by the government if they don’t?

Why, indeed?

How do you think it would skew the math in a society that’s been pushing an attitude of being life-long renters if you could not only live rent-free, but never have to pay taxes on the land you rent, either?

If Fixed income retirees never had to sweat the ups and downs of the markets driving the value of their land higher and higher to the point they could no longer afford to pay the property tax and their groceries, utilities, and prescriptions?

We’re already seeing a pivot to making every American a shareholder in the US economy with the Trump accounts from last years reconciliation bill. But this would give owners a longterm advantage over major developers buying up huge parcels of land so that they could corner the housing market and make renters of us all — or at least as many as they can.

And by privileging homeowners over developers or snowbirds and other foreigners? That property tax still gets paid by the fatcats the socialists like to dunk on. And that shuts down their favorite lie that GOP policies only care about the rich.

Let Mamdani have his pipe dreams about nationalizing property. The GOP bring have a reply to the collectivists that runs through the blood of every American who has really understood what it is to be from here.
