Newsom’s PR Team Tries To Flex With A Celebrity Lookalike — Gets SLAMMED On Social Media
This is what happens when you hire a culturally-illiterate 20-something to run your social media account

This was right up there with making a ‘fava beans and chianti’ reference to show the politician you work for has a refined palate. The cultural context of the source you draw from matters.
Gavin Newsom’s social media team must know where all the bodies are buried because any sane politician would have fired them for gross incompetence forever ago. If there’s any rake at all that can be stepped on, they can be counted on to slip on their clown shoes and go looking for it.
They’ve still got egg on their face from trying to make Nick Shirley — the guy who exposed the massive ‘Learing Center’ fraud in Minnesota — out to be some kind of a child predator when he began exposing the very same MASSIVE fraud in California that even mainstream outlets are now exposing as well. (It’s telling when your elected politicians are more upset with the guy who EXPOSES enormous fraud than the ones committing it.)
What they were TRYING to do was dunk on Trump for a split-screen tweet with him and Elvis. Because even on the best of days they are second-rate and derivative, reacting to what Trump does rather than charting their own course. But even their attempt to troll backfired hilariously.
It involved a spit-screen shot with a silver screen character that’s about as unlikely a choice as say, Breaking Bad’s Walter White, and for similar reasons. Better yet, the embarrassing tweet used the first-person of Newsom’s own voice, as if he wrote it himself:

Now, it’s entirely possible that he’s so shallow and in love with the guy in the mirror that he DID make this statement himself, or that someone DID claim he reminded him of Patrick Bateman. We wouldn’t put it past that narcissist to think it a compliment if he DID hear someone make that comparison. Whatever the origin story of this tweet, it didn’t take long for the internet to pounce on it.
Before we go too far in the story, we need to make the point that so many others dunking him have left out. This is NOT the first time the American Psycho story has been floated. Per Huffpo, October 30, 2025:

Fittingly, Nick Shirley gave the devastating response rooted in facts and logic:

Congrats, Newsom.
If it wasn’t enough that people were making ‘Lizard People’ jokes about you and your uncanny personality defects, we can NOW write those off as artifacts of you holding up a materialistic, cannabalistic, psychopathic killer as a role model. That actually goes a long way to explaining, for example, your indifference to the folks from the Pallisades not having their homes rebuilt. Or dining at the French Laundry while criminalizing walks on the beach.
But that was just the serious response. It got so much better when people piled on to unleash their snarky side. Some landed better than others.
A split-screen with the clown fell pretty flat. One of him and a photo taken from behind a horse was a little better. The OJ one was ‘meh’.
This one, however, wasn’t just snarky, it was savage. It mocked his personal history as a Democrat who looked past the MeToo sins of a Dem rainmaker (even took his donations) until Weinstein became disposable and no longer useful to the cause.

This one was harsh, but funny.

No question, there IS a likeness.
And if we were looking for his ideological twin? How about the one guy that finally motivated him to clean up the city when he came to visit?

But for our money, Tim Pool gave us the best reply by a country mile.

This one is just plain spooky.
