Cut To The Heart (Acts 2:34-41)

Ever notice how God’s plan for radical church growth looks VERY different from the ‘seeker sensitive church growth’ gurus with marketing degrees?

Yeah. It’s almost as if the kind of growth that God wanted in his church REQUIRED the crowds to be faced with some uncomfortable truth.

(And really, when it comes to our conscience, is there any other kind?)

In today’s text, Peter finishes his initial sermon and hold nothing back in holding up the harsh mirror of moral reality to the crowd that called for the Crucifixion of God’s own Son just a few weeks earlier.

And when did they do it? During a national period of fasting and prayer?

Nope. They dropped these truth nukes smack in the middle of a national celebratory holiday that was like the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Mardi Gras all wrapped up in one.

And God’s Holy Spirit held NOTHING back in telling the truth about sin, righteousness, and judgment in that moment, because the ‘ingathering’ He cared about in that moment was NOT agriculture, so much as the ingathering of souls of so many who had wandered far from the love of God.

Of course, when we come to Him, reconciliation comes on terms of HIS choosing, not our own.
