Yo, Nutty ‘Bishop’, Stop Ripping Out Pages, The Bible Does NOT Need A ‘THIRD Testament’

News flash: when the Bible is 'problemmatic' the problem does NOT fall on the Book, but the Reader

From Christianity’s very first generation, the Apostles warned us that false teachers would come to lead us astray. Generations of nicer-than-Christ soft sermons have left the flock vulnerable to those who creep in unaware.

A woman most of our readers never heard of went viral this week. She’s both a ‘pastor’ and a ‘bishop’ by San Fransisco’s very loose definitions of the terms. Why did she go viral? Because she’s anointed herself a critic of the Verbum Dei, talking about the parts she’d like to rip out, and calling for a ‘Third Testament’.

I think the Protestia account may have been the first to flag this one.

Here’s the video:

Now I’m a believer. My whole heart, I trust God with my whole heart. I wake up in the morning talking to God and God talking to me.
But I am completely frustrated with the ways in which the text speaks to the kind of vitriolic God that makes those kinds of things.
And people will say, ‘well, it’s in the book.’ And I said, then we need to pull that page out.
And they said, well, you can’t do it. It’s the Word of God. I said, no, it’s words about God. Come on now. But is it the Word of God? No. It is not the Word of God.”

Who is this crazy lady? She has a Wiki page (because of course she does) that sums her up in the following way.

Womanist. Pastor. Activist. Singer.

That’s an interesting cluster of descriptions, isn’t it? Even the order sends a clear message of sorts. It signals her commitment to some ideology called ‘womanism’ eclipses her commitment to ‘pastoring’. That tracks with what she says in the clip.

The Bible has ‘become problemmatic’, you say?

Well bless your benighted little heart.
You think you’re actually covering bold new ground here, do ya?

The very first lie in the Garden was ‘has God said?’

The strongest weapon our Enemy has had in his arsenal against us from that day forward has ever been some new variation of the same damned lie.

The real problem is no different from every OTHER heretic down through the generations. She wants the assurance (and, in today’s world, clout) that comes with calling yourself a Christian, while demanding that God accepts her on HER terms, as though the Lord of All Creation owes his creation some kind of gratitude for giving HIM the time of day.

You’ve got it exactly backwards, lady.

  • Aaron built a calf, claiming it was ‘the Lord’. He was judged for it.
  • Nadab and Abihu tried to elevate themselves beyond their station leading ‘worship’. They were judged for it.
  • Uzziah was king took it upon himself to enter the temple and burn incense. He was struck with leprosy for his impertinence.
  • Jewish leaders permitted worship of pagan gods in the Temple itself, and led to the Babylonian Exile.
  • Religious leaders in Jesus’ day elevated their sects (super-pious Pharisees, super-liberal Sadducees, and the lawyers who just wanted to play hall monitor with everyone else’s rule-keeping) were all so caught up in their own religious systems that they missed literal fulfillment of every messianic promise unfolding before their very eyes.
  • Gnostics tried to knock down the Word, and failed.
  • The heretic Marcion of Sinope popped up a few decades after the Church was launched in the Upper Room, trying to pit the ‘good’ Jesus of the New Testament against the ‘bad’ YHWH of the Old Testament. (Sounds like Flunder). He tried to write his own canon of scripture and he was summarily kicked into history’s ash heap.

Time and again, across centures, languages and continents, people have found the word of God objectionable and tried to war against it.

Voltaire raged against Christianity in general — and the Bible in particular — longing for a day when scripture would be relegated to nothing more than a quaint artifact of history. Less than a century later, his own estate was being used by Bible Societies for the storage of Bibles and Bible-making equipment. (Explained, with sources and footnotes, here.)

Flunder wants to rip out those sections that offend her modern sensibilities. Oh REALLY?

The Apostle John specifically addressed her reaction to God’s word, just a few verses after the famous 3:16, he tells us:

And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

God is Holy. Full stop.

The core message Jesus came with began with an imperative: ‘Repent’.

The LORD does NOT adapt to the will of fickle and changeable humanity.
Humanity adapts to the will a Holy and Immutable God.
Those are the terms. Take them or leave them.

As for ‘adding another Testament’ to scripture?

The canon is closed.  Even if all the churches in the world decided we needed to add some kind of a modern appendex or explainer, who would we possibly put forward as a worthy candidate? Peter reminds us:

knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Peter, who paid the martyr’s price to seal the truth of his words in his own blood, spent the first chapter of his final letter reminding readers that his message was not something he pulled out of the ether. He is telling what he SAW, and KNEW to be true.

But of course, Flunder doesn’t care about any of that. She gives the game away in this clip where she makes the claim: these are not the words OF God, but words ABOUT God.

As soon as she crosses that line, she is no better than any other cult. No better than the Moonies preaching about a ‘third Adam’. She stepped into the Devil’s playground, where she will twist scripture to make it say whatever she wants it to say, with no guardrails to stop her. She lies, because her works were evil.

To tell the truth would lead her (and others like her) to a place of humility, repentance and grace. Such things run 180 degrees counter to the world of agitation and activism, in which politics stand in the void left by an otherwise godless religion.

There will be no ‘Third Testament’. We do not need one.

John, who was the last living of the Twelve Apostles, ended his last letter to the Churches with a very clear message on this exact topic:

She, and others like her can scoff all they want at reactions of the ‘religious right’ they hold in scorn.

But OUR final analysis is NOT the one she should be concerned about.
