90 Days of McDonalds and 37 Lbs Lighter?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64Vmz0PnykI

Does McDonalds make people fat, or do their customers’ menu choices?

The “Super Size Me” documentary from a decade ago, answered that question, didn’t it?  You’d think so, the way some people quote it as “gospel”.  But not so fast.  After reading about another McDonalds experiment, maybe there’s more to this story.

John Cisna, a science teacher from Iowa took on a 90 day experiment where he, too ate McDonalds for 3 meals a day.  John’s experiment, however, had one significant difference.  He did so from within nutritionists’ guidelines — watching his intake of calories, carbs, fats, etc.

Does that mean he ate only salads and oatmeal?  Not at all; he ate Big Macs and shakes, too.  But he didn’t make blind or foolish choices.  He had a plan, stuck to it, and actually lost weight.  Over that 90 day period, he lost thirty-seven pounds, in fact.  Not too shabby.  Did I mention that he lowered his cholesterol, too?

In an age where heavy-handed government interference oversees our dietary choices, monitors our children’s bag lunches, outlaws “over-sized” soft drinks, and is led by the personal crusade of no less than FLOTUS herself, maybe it’s time to be reminded that the menu isn’t really the culprit.

If a man can lose 37 lbs in 90 days eating McDonalds, maybe we can stop vilifying the restaurant chain and start looking at personal responsibility.

Responsibility?  Remember that?  It’s that thing  we had where we didn’t blame everyone else for our failings. It made us great once upon a time.
