Jane Fonda ‘Apologizes’ For Her Pro-Vietman 1972 Pics – The Internet Is Calling BS On Her
‘Hanoi’ Jane said she was sorry for posing for a photo sitting on top of an anti-aircraft gun in Vietnam in 1972. Do you buy it?
She’s given some half-hearted apologies for the photos in Hanoi over the years. In her 2005 memoir, she said that she was ‘manipulated’ into posing for the photo. On her website in 2011, she called the moment ‘a two-minute lapse of sanity that will haunt me forever.‘
But this latest ‘apology’ is particularly bad.
Variety published her comments at the Television Critics Association panel when she spoke about her anti-war activism and her upcoming HBO documentary.
“I was a kind of pretty girl who made movies,” Fonda said at the Television Critics Association panel for her upcoming HBO documentary, “Jane Fonda in Five Acts.” “When I decided to throw in my lot with the anti-war movement, everything shifted. Everything. The way I looked at the world and other people, people I was drawn to. … Everything changed.”
At the time, Fonda recalled, she met some American soldiers in Paris, who told her what they had seen and done in the war. Prior to that experience, she admitted she had been “completely uninvolved” in anything political and “didn’t even know where Vietnam was.” She had also believed that if there were men fighting, they were “on the side of the angels.”
Something just doesn’t smell right here…
“I didn’t like it that there were men in France that knew better than I did,” she said. “The coin shifted. I said, ‘I feel betrayed by this country’s leadership. We’ve been lied to, and I want to do anything I can to expose that.’”
Fonda didn’t want to be an ignorant twit that knew less than ‘men in France’, so she edumacated herself and became active in the anti-war movement.
This was when she took that trip to Vietnam in 1972 and took those famous photos sitting on an anti-aircraft gun in Hanoi.
Decades later, she regrets sitting on the gun, but not that she went to Vietnam.
Here’s her half-assed apology:
“I’m proud that I went to Vietnam when I did, but what I say in the film is true: I am just so sorry that I was thoughtless enough to sit down on that gun at that time. The message that sends to the guys that were there and their families, it’s horrible for me to think about that,” she said. “Sometimes I think, ‘Oh I wish I could do it over’ because there are things I would say differently now.”

She could’ve hashtagged that statement #SorryNotSorry.
So, it was ‘thoughtless’. One could say that that is the defining characteristic of the anti-war movement.
Many on the Left have attempted to defend Fonda for her anti-war behavior in the 70s by saying that she was ‘young’ at the time.
Really?
Let’s do some quick math…
Fonda was born in 1937 and went to Vietnam in 1972, which would have made her 35 years old at the time.
She wasn’t a young pup — she was a full grown woman who should have had her crap together.
Spare me that excuse.
Besides, this latest statement that she made isn’t an actual apology, but more of an attempt to assuage her guilt.

It looks like there are some Patriots that are unwilling to forget what Fonda did in Vietnam as a 35-year old adult.
That’s because she still doesn’t think she really did anything wrong.
