Being deaf in one ear has got to be burden enough without having a train coming from that same side.
One November day in Wisconsin, the Amtrack train was almost on him before he even realized the danger he was in. All Alexander could do at that point was slam the accelerator and hope for the best.
Alexander Evans’ vehicle was struck by the 80mph passenger train near Ixonia, west of Milwaukee, on Wednesday.
“Yeah, it just, boom,” Evans told WISN-12.
Evans, who is deaf in his left ear, said he didn’t hear the train’s horn as he approached the crossing, which has no warning lights or signals, according to WISN-12.
Finally, he realized the approaching danger.
“Literally it was like one long beep, horn from the train, and I put my foot on the gas, kind of like trying,” Evans recalled. “I don’t know how far I’m going to get away from him.” — Huffpo
He survived, of course. And the footage from his cab is just now being released to the public. If you’ve even wondered what it was like to have your vehicle hit by a train, this is about as close as you’re going to get without being hit yourself.
