Rain and Politics in North Carolina

(First published Oct 3, reprinted with permission)

Why are people in North Carolina suffering after the latest storm? The answers are both obvious and unusual. We are responding to both acts of nature and acts of human nature. Both are predictable. Getting re-elected was more important than helping US citizens in need.

Hurricanes happen. While the rains may not have been extraordinary where you live, rivers concentrate rainfall into narrow basins or floodplains. That means the wall of water arrives at your doorstep even if the rains were miles or hundreds of miles away. We’ve seen that before, so why were people hit so hard this time?

Civilians are usually the first responders. We help our neighbors grab their things and go. Lots of us did that, but there were some people left behind. Your neighbor with a truck has a hard time helping you if the road is washed out and impassible.

I’ve seen individuals with private helicopters save lives. Usually, state officials are eager to clear up the bureaucratic problems so that rescue flights can take place. It certainly looks bad when victims are left behind asking for help. We owe our neighbors a debt of thanks, but they can only give so much.

The national guard and the army have utility helicopters. They have the equipment, the training, and the personnel to fly into remote areas. Many of the guys and gals in green want to help their neighbors. Unfortunately, politics got in the way.

The Biden Harris administration spent a boatload of cash on blue states and blue cities after Covid. They gave money to Ukraine, and spent money to fly illegal immigrants into purple states. The put the US military on the border, not to defend the border but to process illegals who crossed it.

Now we are complaining about inflation since the federal government diluted our money and prices surged. FEMA already spent its budget on housing illegals. That was a political choice, and now the citizens of North Carolina don’t get the aid they need because Biden/Harris already spent the money that was set aside for emergencies.

Money talks. Following the money tells us the truth about what a politician thinks is important. Biden and Harris want illegals to vote in this election. They think getting reelected is more important than helping US citizens in need.

Yes, money talks. In this case, the money trail shouts, but will independent voters listen?
