NORM! Honoring George Wendt’s Passing With A Video Featuring Every Iconic ‘Cheers’ Entrance

Long before Kramer was making his dramatic entrances on Seinfeld, Cheers gave us 'NORM!'

Rest In Peace, George Wendt. In a beloved show whose theme song was ‘where everybody knows your name’, you played the personification of that spirit.

George Wendt passed away earlier this week. He was living proof that sometimes the actors that don’t quite crack A-list status can go on to be more beloved than those who do.

Wendt played the ‘everyman’ character Norm Peterson on Cheers. He and his buddy Cliff Claven played off each other beautifully on the screen. But what he may have been best remembered for was the fact that every time he came down those stairs, and opened the door to the beloved drinking hole, he was greeted by everyone present with a welcoming chorus of ‘NORM’!

Followed immediately by a question from whoever was tending bar, and a snappy one-liner answer.

It was a big part of the hit show’s charm and it began on episode one.

All of his entrances from Cheers were complied onto one video.

For those who want a moment of nostalgia… or those who missed out on it first time around, here is that compilation.

Enjoy.

And may the actor who gave us these nostalgic moments rest in peace.

Perhaps with a tall glass of, well … something refreshing.
