California Gubernatorial Candidate Meets A Real Reporter And It Goes COMPLETELY Off The Rails

How damning is it of the ‘real’ media that an elected California Democrat doesn’t know how to handle a follow-up question from an investigative reporter?

On one level, it’s hardly surprising for an elected Democrat in California to be so freakishly coddled by friendly media types blowing sunshine up their arses that they wouldn’t know what to do with questions that actually dig into some uncomfortable truths.

But the fact that someone in a statewide race for Governor hasn’t given even a moment’s thought to how she might appeal to the 40% of Californians who vote Red at least some of the time? That’s one helluva insight to how tightly wrapped in their partisan bubbles they really are.

Last election, Trump picked up votes in pretty much EVERY demographic, because he gave some thought to the ways his policies would benefit EVERYONE, and not just the rabid partisans.

Katie Porter is the leading Democrat candidate in the primary race for California, and she sits down for an interview where the reporter is asking exactly the same questions to all of the candidates. Of course, the problem with questions that the candidates know are coming, is the fact that you can expect exactly the BS canned answer they’ve practiced with their handlers. For an journalist to get anything authentic (for the rare journalist who takes the time to go there) the real interview is found in asking the kind of follow-up question that takes you beyond the canned answers.

Here is an incensed Katie Porter, a Democrat politician, walking away from an interview because (in her own damning words) nobody has ever asked her follow-ups like this before.

Not only do we have this glorious clip of her tapping out of the interview… we’ve got her on tape whining about the interview questions, too.

Imagine the kind of political privilege you must walk in to believe that reporters owe YOU some kind of a favor, and aren’t supposed to ask challenging questions.

Do you think there’s even a single Republican in the entire state that could join her in saying they’ve never been asked these sorts of follow-ups? Normally, they’re called on to denounce things some clown with an (R) after his name may or may not have said halfway across the country, or explain why they’re not, in fact, science-denying, racist nazis. Or whatever the current talking point might be.

But there’s another interesting point from this inteview that many are missing.

It was established that some 40% of Californians voted for Trump, and Katie made it clear that her strategy was to win on the backs of the other 60% of voters. When pointedly asked if it’s her position that she can win without the Trump voters, she replied:

“If it’s me versus a Repubican? I believe I will win the people who did not vote for Trump.”

It’s the next question that most people overlook. California has embraced what’s called a ‘jungle primary’, meaning the two candidates with the greatest percentage of votes — even if they’re from the same party — will face off against each other in the final voting.

The way California’s primaries work, the 2 candidates with the most votes will face each other, no matter WHICH party they come from. In California, it’s possible to see 2 Democrats fighting for the Governor’s role. The reporter asked about that, which theoretically would be something decided by the voters and nobody else, right?

“What if it’s you versus another Democrat?”

A reasonable question, seeing the Democrats would be fighting over the same vote share and the Trump voters she claims to not need in her election bid would hold the deciding votes.

Katie’s answer was… odd.

“I will intend that not to be the case.”

I mean… is she gonna close her eyes real tight and wish on a shooting star? Is she going to sandbag the rivals in her own party? Is the Democrat machine going to pull the plug on certain candidates the way they propped up Hillary and Biden against Bernie Sanders, or magically made the Biden/Harris 2024 primary magically disappear?

Ordinarily she would face a Republican. But this is California with the so-called ‘jungle primary’. Depending on how votes gets split (a problem facing GOP candidates)… she could face another Democrat, and suddenly those ‘enemy’ votes will become very important for both candidates, regardless of whether she THINKS she needs them or not.
