Let’s Look at What our New “Friend” Iran Supports
In his Neville Chamberlain-like rush to sign the dotted line, has the President forgotten why we had strained relations with Iran in the first place?
While there are various things we could address, including their proxy wars against US interests, let’s focus on the terrorism involvement.
Remember Iran’s support of terrorism? Tony Blinken does, in fact he mentions it as one of the things Iran does that USA “doesn’t like”. What he means to say is that Iran has supported groups like Hamas.
We have an instance of Hamas acknowledging Iran’s help to “make Israel scream with pain” here. We have a Time World piece describing $120 million a year that Iran had been sending to Hamas. That dried up when Hamas backed the wrong side in the Syria situation, offending their patrons. That same article indicates Hamas’s eagerness to reestablish Iran as their financier.
And we have recent reports indicating Iran’s money is flowing again, according to the Lebanese newspaper “As-Safir”.
Hamas, you may remember, is categorized by many as a terrorist group. Why is that?
It comes down to their defining documents. Typically, nations, states, companies and even non-profit groups have founding documents that outline who they are (and aren’t) and what they have joined together to accomplish. The document becomes the defining DNA of that group.
To make any major revisions would trigger a crisis of identity in who that group is and what it’s new course should be.
Hamas has such a document, entitled “Covenant of Hamas”, the English version of which is available in its entirety for those who would want to check context.
Some of the points contained in that document should make us question who exactly we are dealing with in the alleged peace-process that has meandered on for as long as i can remember.
The Consulate General of Israel in New York was helpful to enumerate some of the more alarming points contained. (Feel free to compare these points against the full text given above.) It might be helpful to remind you that Hamas is an abbreviation for “Islamic Resistance Movement”; much like Nazi was short for National Socialist German Workers’ Party.
Here’s a small sampling of the Consulate’s list:
Goals of the HAMAS:
“The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine.” (Article 6)Rejection of a negotiated peace settlement:
“[Peace] initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement… Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam… There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.” (Article 13)The exclusive Moslem nature of the area:
“The land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf [Holy Possession] consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgment Day. No one can renounce it or any part, or abandon it or any part of it.” (Article 11)On the destruction of Israel:
“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” (Preamble)
So when POTUS talks about Iran like they’re his new BFF, remember the sort of groups Iran has been funding, and ask yourself how much should we trust these people to be “honest brokers”?
An even better question might be: what will the billions of dollars of assets so recently unfrozen be used for now?
