Macomb Township — Army Sgt. Davin Dumar gave a lot to his country and people like Kid Rock wanted to thank him.
On Saturday in Macomb Township, Kid Rock joined Dan Wallrath, founder of Operation Finally Home, and representatives of the Pulte Group to present Dumar and his wife Dana, with a free new home.
Rock and members of the Dumar family waited inside a Pulte Homes model home to surprise the young Mount Clemens couple.
As they waited quietly for the couple to enter, Rock joked, “Don’t anybody screw this up and say happy birthday.”
Dumar and his wife were shocked to see Rock, their family and the media waiting in the living room of the model home. As the couple entered, the crowd listened quietly as just before entering the Dumars told the Pulte Homes representative they liked the location because it was close to family. They are going to be starting a family soon and would be needing babysitters, the couple said.
When they entered the living room Rock and others clapped.
Rock told Dumar they were chosen to receive a new home built especially for them.
“We are all grateful for your service to our country,” said Rock.
“I wasn’t expecting this,” said Dumar and his wife, who cried tears of joy.
Dumar, who lost a leg and injured his arm while serving in Afghanistan last year, was selected by the Texas-based nonprofit Operation Finally Home, which has been building homes for soldiers wounded in war for seven years. Wallrath met Rock, who convinced him to come to Michigan.
Wallrath, a custom builder for 30 years, decided he wanted to give back to those who sacrifice for their country. The organization has built 50 homes in 11 states.
The Dumars’ home will be completed early next year.
Rock and the Dumars walked to the lot that will be the site of their new home. Rock even broke out some cigars that he shared with Dumar.
When asked about the day, Dumar said he was overwhelmed and happy to see the community cared about its military.
“I love my job and I’d do it all over again if I had to.”

"Doug Giles and his team over at ClashDaily.com cut through the crap to expose what have become modern day human slaughter houses: gun free zones. Their candid arguments about allowing teachers to protect themselves and the students in their care through concealed carry should be taken seriously. As a result maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to save some lives someday rather than call the cops to report the body count." - Katie Pavlich. "There were many lessons to draw from the horrific Newtown, CT school shooting. Unfortunately, most of the media and political Left came up with the wrong ones. But not Doug Giles and his writers over at ClashDaily.com. In the wake of this horror, they offered a robust defense of American citizens' right to bear arms and common sense answers to societal violence. The Sandy Hook Massacre: When Seconds Count, the Police are Minutes Away is a great resource for those interested in this vital, Constitutional issue." - S.E.
