I have decided four years in advance to write the nomination speech for the Republican nominee in 2016. Whoever you are (Rubio, Ryan, Cristy, other), feel free to use it:
My fellow Republicans, I accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States of America (pause for applause).
I not only address you tonight, but I address all Americans, because if we are to do what needs to be done, everyone must join us. I am not here to give you sound bytes or easy answers, because the problems America faces are not easily fixed. There is a tough road ahead and issues that must finally be addressed.
For too long both parties have put the burden to fix our problems on future generations. For too long politicians have told you what you wanted to hear and told you not to worry. They smiled and convinced many that the government is here to help, but in reality they were simply stealing your power and giving it to the government. They told you that the government was your protector, but the only thing it protects is its own power and the power of special interests. They told you that government would supply all your needs, but in reality they gave you scraps and told you to be happy with them.
We have been lied to and we have been enslaved by those we trusted to represent us. There are no easy answers and there is no easy road, but this is America and we are Americans. This is the country that was founded upon liberty and shook off the shackles of an oppressive government. We are a country that fought a civil war to undo a great injustice and came out of the destruction a stronger and more moral nation. We are the country that has stood for freedom and fought back against the forces of evil and has won.
One great generation after another has arisen throughout our history and now it is time for this generation to rise and to fix the problems that others have laid at our feet.
The Democrats will try and scare you and say that the Republicans just want to take all your goodies away, but I know that America is better than that. It is time that we stop settling for the scraps that Washington, DC throws at us and demand the one thing the politicians truly don’t want to give the American people … Freedom.
The politicians don’t want you to have freedom and power over your own lives and they will do everything possible to instill fear into you to keep the power they have become accustomed to.
Do not fear and do not believe the lies. Don’t let them tell you that we will destroy the safety nets while they continue to drive the safety nets into bankruptcy. Don’t let them tell you that they are for the working person while they destroy and punish the companies that create jobs. Don’t let them tell you that they won’t raise taxes on the poor while they crush the middle class and poor by driving up prices through inflation and excessive taxes on companies that make the products we consume. Don’t let them tell you that they will make sure that government is there to help you, because if it weren’t for their policies, you wouldn’t need the scraps from government they are offering.
If I become President, the Republican party and those that are willing to join us will stand for the American people, not Washington, DC. We will stand for both businesses and for the worker, but will fight against corruption in corporations and unions. We will stand for thoughtful, smarter, and smaller government and crush the bureaucracies that waste your money. We will stand for better schools, better teachers and better results. We will stand for safety nets that are secure and help those that truly can’t help themselves. We will empower the individual, giving them more freedom, not less to control their own destinies.
Maybe I am wrong. Just maybe we have forgotten who we are as a nation and what made us great. Maybe all we want is to turn over our well being to the government. Maybe we want an ever growing, ever controlling larger government. Maybe we simply are scared of the harder path and if that is true, I am not the president for you and we are not the party for you.
Just maybe these things are true and I am blind, but I still have hope. I still believe that we are a nation of people that are ready to rise once again and secure our place for generations to come. That we are more than able to fix our problems even if that means sacrifice across the board. If you believe as I do, then rise with us. Rise with us and take on the corruption and laziness that has invested our government. Rise with us and let us ensure that there is a true free market where no corporation has an inside track and no business is too big to fail. Rise with us and let us reward the hard workers of this country, not the corrupt union bosses. Rise with us and let us unleash the power of the free market and clean house of those that have endangered our financial institutions.
We are a nation that was born out of the desire for liberty and freedom. Out of that freedom great institutions were formed. These great institutions have made us into the country that we are, but these institutions have forgotten that what made them great was the foundation of freedom. Rise with us and we will restore freedom and liberty as the foundation of everything we do and every institution that calls America home. Rise with us and we together as a nation will walk the hard road and set us on a continued path of greatness. Rise with us and future Americans will look back upon this generation and thank us for our vision and our courage.
Rise America! Rise!
God bless you and God bless the United States of America.
