SHOOTING AN ELK IS WORSE THAN RAPING A WOMAN: In Boulder Shooting An Elk Gets You 6yrs, Rape-30Days

According to The Daily Mail, a police officer in Boulder, Colorado faces up to six years in prison for shooting an elk in the community:

A former Boulder police officer was convicted Tuesday of killing a bull elk that had become a treasured companion in an upscale neighborhood and whose death sparked marches, prayer vigils and at least one tribute song.

A jury found Sam Carter guilty of nine charges. He could face up to six years in prison after shooting the animal known as Big Boy last year as it grazed beneath a crabapple tree, The Daily Camera reported.

Boulder animal activist Jessica Sandler applauded the verdict.

‘It is so rare for an animal to get any semblance of justice in our court system,’ she told the newspaper.

Carter argued that the elk had become dangerously domesticated and was scaring local dogs.

But prosecutors told the jury the killing was a case of poaching by an officer who sought to use his position to get an illegal trophy mount.

Meanwhile, also in the Boulder area, a Boulder Realtor Association board member gets only 30 days in jail and 20 years of probation for raping a 20-year old girl (The Daily Camera):

BROOMFIELD — A former Boulder Area Realtor Association board member convicted of raping his children’s 20-year-old babysitter was spared a potential life sentence Thursday and instead will spend 30 days in jail and 20 years on probation after the judge in his case voiced concerns about Colorado’s sentencing rules.

Curtis Jay Hilty, 40, of Broomfield, was found guilty in April of sexual assault on a helpless victim and sex assault-overcoming a victim’s will, both felonies. The jury concluded that Hilty had sex with the woman — whom he had known since she was an infant — after she fell asleep.

Only in a liberal world would one prize an elk above a human.
