American Exceptionalism: Obama’s #1 Bugaboo

If you were raised like I was, you were taught that America is the greatest country on Earth. My parents instilled in me the idea that if you are honest and work hard in this country, you will be personally successful. You may not be rich, you might not be famous, but if you embody these values you will lead a respectable and honorable life.

You see, in this country, we are afforded the liberties and freedom in our daily lives that many around the world to not enjoy because we live in America. It is this very fact that the notion of American Exceptionalism evolves and is precisely why I believe this country is still the best in the world.

French writer Alexis de Tocqueville first wrote of American Exceptionalism in 1835, stating that, “The position of Americans is therefore quite exceptional, and it may be believed that no democratic people will ever be placed in a similar one.” Wow, pretty humbling words coming from a Frenchman regarding a country that wasn’t even 100 years old yet.

I’m no scholar on the matter and I doubt my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science offers much credibility on my opinions that I write here, but I do believe that in matters of the heart and soul, a Ph.D. just cannot capture the essence and true meaning of something I believe to be so vital and immeasurable to this country as this notion of American Exceptionalism. What I (and I’m sure a number of Americans) lack in scholarly research and experience, we make up for in our unwavering patriotism.

This is the stark difference between people like us and our President. Although claiming to “believe in American Exceptionalism with every fiber” of his being, the actions (and inactions) of Obama tells another story. What’s more, the Dear and Fearless Leader that has said what makes America so exceptional is action, not words. At his West Point graduation address this past May, the President proclaimed that, “[what] makes us exceptional is not flouting international norms and rule of law; it’s our willingness to affirm them through our actions.”

Au contraire, Mr. President. What has this man (I use the term loosely here) done to warrant our place in the international arena as exceptional? Never mind the empty words via TelePrompTer, false promises, and (by many Americans’ standards) treasonous acts, what actions has he taken to prove we truly are exceptional? Besides negotiating with terrorists, aiding our enemies, and making sure transgendered people are treated better than our veterans,  no action of his has shown this world that this nation is exceptional. In fact, he prefers to minimize our greatness and uses the fruits of our labor for his personal gain and agenda.

Mr. Swag can talk the talk but when it comes to walking the walk, he fails miserably and here’s why. This country was founded on not only the principle of freedom (particularly religious freedom) but also that the power of our leaders and our personal freedom does not come from what man has given us, but from what God has given us.

Newt Gingrich articulated this notion so eloquently in 2011 by saying that what makes American Exceptionalism different “…is that we are the only people I know of in history who say, ‘Power comes directly from God to you…you are personally sovereign…so you are always a citizen, you are never a subject.” Since our nation was founded on this principle, we right wingers don’t find anything wrong or shameful believing liberty and freedom are God given rightsThis is what separates us from the rest of the world and this is what makes us exceptional.

Here we are three years later, comparing the current incumbent to a king and dictator because of his words and his actions. Actions that did not, as he explained to West Point graduates, confirm America’s exceptionalism but rather undermine our foundation and placed citizens in danger. Recent actions like trading a known deserter and possibly traitor for 5 bin Ladens, supporting Palestinian terrorists, and threatening to bypass Congress to provide amnesty to thousands of disease infested illegal immigrants, and, the Supreme Court ruling regarding Hobby Lobby. These and many other of his questionable actions will take this country years to recover from.

The problem with this fraudulent President is that he does not believe our sovereignty and rights come from God, because he does not believe in the same God that we do. Obama has long been thought to be a Muslim and that has become startling evident in his clear alliance and defense of the Muslim world at every turn. Not only do I believe he is Muslim, I believe he considers himself to be a god. This is why American Exceptionalism makes him uncomfortable—because he doesn’t believe America is exceptional and he sure isn’t going to make sure she is exceptional when he’s done weakening her from the inside out. From Benghazi to the IRS targeting innocent citizens, to implementing his brown shirt tactics to keep the immigrant border dumps a secret, and in so doing he has weakened our defense and our internal infrastructure.

The current immigration fiasco is not only going to absolutely destroy our state resources, strain law enforcement, but has the potential to infect our citizens with deadly diseases we have never been exposed to. And what’s worse, how do we know who else is coming in with these so called refugees?  This President has, for the first time in the history of American politics, used human lives to advance a stealth agenda.

Our President is not quite as intelligent as he and his supporters would lead the country to believe.  Here’s why.  He views American exceptionalism  and arrogance to be the same thing.  It’s not the same thing, but Americans understand that.  This President, based on every action and inaction, does not.
