So few people do that anymore…think, that is. It is so much easier to waste your time watching the boob tube where the talking heads tell you what to think, or perhaps sports programming, where the goal is to occupy your mind so that you don’t think at all. Or better yet, they keep you glued to your hand-held device while you waste away the hours.
Well, I like to think, and today I would like to share just a few of my thoughts with you. I make no judgments and cast no aspersions; I simply pose some questions that rattle around inside my head. Think with me for a moment. Feel free to come to your own conclusions. Ready? Here we go…
Governor Scott Walker was recently asked if he believed the President is a Christian. The media went bonkers when he refused to express his views regarding Obama’s Christianity, yet Obama has spent a great deal of time telling us that ISIS isn’t Muslim. In fact, according to Obama, none of the terrorists are Muslim, Boko Haram isn’t Muslim, Al Qaeda isn’t Muslim, and neither are Al-Badr, Ansar Al-Islam, Hamas, or the scores of others listed here. However, we aren’t permitted to question Obama’s faith while he questions everybody else’s.
Matthew 7:16 says, “Ye shall know them by their fruits.”
Rudy Guiliani and President Obama share the same views on most issues. Both are pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun, big-tent, big-government politicians. One happens to be a Catholic-Christian; the other appears to be a Muslim-Christian. In reality, neither of them holds values consistent with Christianity.
Oh, and why is the media worried about Governor Scott Walker’s failure to graduate from college, when they have asked absolutely no questions regarding the college years of President Obama?
In his campaign speeches, Obama repeatedly pledged that he would “fundamentally transform America.” If you truly love something, would you desire to “fundamentally transform” it? If I told my wife that I loved her, but wanted to “fundamentally transform” her, I’d better duck…and fast.
If moral values don’t come from the Bible, where do they come from? Does the vote of Congress or a Supreme Court decision make something right or wrong? Is the Bible true or is it made up? If it is made up, what parts of it are we supposed to believe? Do we just pick and choose which things we will believe, and is everyone allowed to simply choose which tenets they believe to be true? When there is conflict in beliefs, where do we turn to straighten them out? The courts? Our Pastors? Our political leaders? If truth is merely an opinion, whose opinion do we listen to?
I’m Proud to be White
“I’m proud to be white.” Why does that statement make people so uncomfortable? Blacks are allowed to be proud of being black. Homosexuals are allowed to be proud of being homosexual. Chicanos are allowed to be proud. They even have an organization called La Raza which means “the Race.” Why is it that white folks are called racists if they express pride in their heritage?
Criticism’s Broad Brush
Why is it taboo to criticize the Jews? Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is a good example of Christ, just as not every Muslims is a terrorist. Not all Jews are bloodline Jews, and not all Jews are “God’s chosen people”, yet criticizing Jews and Judaism is the third rail of politics. Why does criticizing any group of people automatically mean the criticism somehow applies to every member of that group?
Why are we told that only politicians are qualified to be President? Why are the two parties intent on giving us family dynasties as Presidential candidates? Neither Hillary nor Jeb Bush is popular with the American people, yet the powers-that-be are determined to present them as the top choices of their respective parties. Why can’t a new face ever break through? Is it possible that our elections are controlled? Could it be that the two-political parties are really serving the same master? Aren’t you tired of the Clintons and the Bushes?
God Does Not Change
God does not change. This simple truth is a scary proposition for any believer. In fact, it is the fear of the Lord that is the beginning of all wisdom. The Old Testament God was one tough dude. He killed a lot of folks. He destroyed a bunch of cities. He rained fire and brimstone down on a city famous for homosexuality.
Christianity teaches that Jesus is God. If it’s true that God doesn’t change, how does the modern church justify the acceptance of homosexuality? You can’t have it both ways. Either God approves of it or He doesn’t. It might be a good idea to get on the same side of the debate as Yahweh.
What is Judeo-Christianity? I understand the roots of Christianity come out of Judaism, but Judaism and Christianity are not the same. Judaism denies the Lordship of Jesus Christ. In fact, Muslims are more open to the idea of Jesus than Judaism is. The tough question we have to face is whether or not the Jews are going to Heaven if the blood of Jesus has not been applied to cover their sins. Are the followers of Judaism any closer to Heaven than the followers of Islam? Was Jesus serious when he said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Did Jesus misspeak? Will He make an exception for certain people? Can you get part-way into Heaven?
If a fetus is not alive, why do they have to kill it? Why is abortion a “difficult choice” between a woman and her doctor, if it is just a medical procedure? Is getting one’s appendix removed a difficult choice between a woman and her doctor?
Did you know that Jesus cursed? That’s right, He cursed a lot. But today we confuse cursing with cussing. Many of the words that we consider “curse” words appear in the Bible. To cuss is “to profane” or use unholy words. To curse, is to project evil, harm, or danger upon another. Jesus didn’t cuss, but He certainly did a lot of cursing. The 2nd Commandment has nothing to do with cussing, but rather using the Name of God for an unholy purpose. Do people take the Lord’s name in vain when they calls themselves Christian yet don’t adhere to Biblical positions? Is that worse than cussing?
Jesus Called People Names
Is calling people names a sin? If so, then does that make Jesus a sinner? He called people “vipers, hypocrites, whited sepulchers, a child of hell, fools, serpents…” If Jesus was all about love, why did He use such harsh language when speaking to “sinners?” If Jesus “loves the sinner but hates the sin”, why is it that He casts the sinner into the lake of fire instead of merely the sin? Souls go to hell, not sin.
It’s easy to confuse lust and love. Lust is the acting out of a physical desire, while love is the living out of an emotional desire. Love is not lust and lust is not love. Having sex is often a fulfillment of lust. Making love is an expression of emotion. Most sex is not love and most love doesn’t involve sex. Love is never “made” but is expressed. Most people you love, you would have no interest in having sex with.
Full Faith and Credit?
Why do most Americans think paper is more valuable than metals? The US Dollar is nothing more than mere paper and ink. It has very negligible tangible value. It is backed by the “full faith and credit” of the US Government. Do you really have any faith in the US Government? Do you trust their integrity in dealing with monetary issues? Why would you rather have a $5 “Federal Reserve Note” than a solid quarter ounce of pure silver? Why do jewelry stores advertise the value of silver, yet Americans seem to prefer the value of ink and paper?
How could a guy like me ever find someone willing to print what I write? Why would anyone ever read it? How could an old helmet-head like me possibly have more wisdom than a Harvard trained lawyer like President Obama?
Ok…that’s enough thinking for today. Class dismissed.
