It’s called “media buzz.”
Imagine a smoke-free board room filled with blow-dried, Hollywood liberal types.
What’s needed is a well-known celebrity willing to make an ass of himself by undergoing a sex change.
Mark Kelsey Grammer off the list as well as Tom Selleck. Both are too conservative and have too much to lose and too much sense. Ted Nugent didn’t even make the list.
Needed is a household name who is now a nobody; someone who peaked years ago and has nothing to lose and too little sense to care.
The list of names is vetted. One stands out: Bruce Jenner.
Again, Jenner has nothing to lose. He has everything to gain. He’s an older, male version of Miley Cyrus.
The washed up former track and field athlete is contacted and, happy to say, he’s game.
The strategy is simple: Get the media talking.
The objective is also simple: Advance a particular cause.
No one in recent months has played the media as effective as Bruce Jenner. Photos of the former Decathlete posing on the cover a superfluous fashion magazine have gone viral. He’s added a feminine alias.
What’s the point?
Like Miley Cyrus twerking her way to a $76.5-million income, Jenner has captured the media’s eyes and embedded his image in our minds.
There’s more to it than meets the eyes, however. Jenner is cashing in on notoriety. Complicit is the right-wing media who regurgitate his image while condemning his scheme, unaware that they are creating the buzz as intended, no doubt, by Jenner’s public relations team.
What to do?
Ignore the phenomenon.
