KIM DAVIS: Was She Illegally Jailed in the Gay Marriage Lion’s Den?

Can you imagine at what point you would make the decision to stand by your faith and enter into the lion’s den for your Christian beliefs? Kim Davis, the now freed Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk was jailed for refusing to issue a gay couple a marriage license in violation of her religious beliefs. Is being jailed for your Christianity; the new line in the sand Christians may have to cross in order to stand up for their faith and Christianity?

Before the U.S. Supreme Court issued its June decision which set the stage for the criminalization of Christianity, millions of Christians may have believed that their faith was protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Now, the harsh reality is clear, whether you are a county clerk in Kentucky or a high school student in Nevada, your actions of Christian faith may have serious consequences.

Consider what you were doing this morning as you sat at your computer in your office with a screen saver of a religious cross on it. Your supervisor or boss could tell you that your display of your faith was offending non-Christians. Or in the case of a young Marine woman, you could be discharged as she was court-martialed.

In the Biblical Book of Daniel, Daniel is rescued by God from a den of lions. The question that Kim Davis was confronted with was whether her faith was great enough to strengthen her and be jailed for God’s Word and not bend to the will of five U.S. Supreme Court justices.

Just as Daniel was circled by the lions in the lions’ den, Kim Davis was encircled by politicians, pundits, gay extremists, and mainstream media attacks because she sought to obey a higher oath to God. Was it legal and was it right?

Consider Rev. Martin Luther King who sat in a Birmingham, Alabama jail in order to protest an unjust law. He was a hero to the civil rights movement and his action brought attention to laws that betrayed the rights guaranteed by God and the U.S. Constitution.

Kim Davis’ beliefs are in lock step with the four dissenters of the U.S. Supreme Court who attacked the constitutional legitimacy of the gay marriage decision.

In fact it was Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts who vilified the court majority and wrote,

The majority’s argument is that the Due Process Clause gives same-sex couples a fundamental right to marry because it will be good for them and for society,” Roberts continued. “If I were a legislator, I would certainly consider that view as a matter of social policy. But as a judge, I find the majority’s position indefensible as a matter of Constitutional law.

Now think about that, a decision that the U.S. Supreme Court made was indefensible as a matter of Constitutional law. Kim Davis was acting both on her conscious which was and is guided by her Christian faith and Kentucky state law. She went to jail as Rev. Martin Luther King did, to stand for God’s law, and in defense of the rights guaranteed to her by the U.S. Constitution and God.

Soon, there will others and the gloss of the court’s gay marriage decision shall permeate nearly every aspect of Christian belief. When your child goes to school and returns home with a book assignment supporting “Adam and Steve” instead of Adam and Eve, what will you do?

The real question that each and every Christian American will have to make for themselves and for their children and family is when will you have to make the decision to enter the lion’s den?
