The Sandy Hook massacre has again allowed us to discern real teachers from the mere control freaks. Forget politics and the current anti-gun fallout. This is simply about a portion of adults projecting their own issues, their inner demons and emotional insecurities via despotic personalities … upon our children. We call them “crazy” or “silly,” or “moronic.” But more school districts across America are regarding these mini tyrants as not only great educators, but heroes. Who knew suspending an 8-year-old with a squirt gun would make some mentally disturbed thug with a teachers’ certificate a hero? But today it does.
Currently it’s Sandy Hook which has allowed the control freaks like Mrs. Dubois (who undoubtedly would be turning in those sure-to-be mass murdering maniacs with their crayons’ depictions of guns left and right) to expose why they are really in our kids’ classrooms — not to teach, but intimidate, tyrannize, and if lucky, indoctrinate, for the political motive de jour comes second to their fundamental goal: to exert power; indiscriminate, abusive power.
People of low self-esteem, suffering from who-knows what psychological torments, have (and always have; this is nothing new I’m speaking of) risen in a new, politically charged environment to, in effect, exploit and torment innocent beings, preventing them from being what nature dictates they be, and wielding over them cruel control they know they could never get away with among their adult counterparts. They are pitiful, disturbed weaklings in regular society, but in the classroom they are kings. And for those who make it out of the classrooms and into high administrative positions, they become gods.
But they are sad. They are pathetic. In another place and time they may have made great concentration camp guards, denying food rations just for the sadistic sake of it; because they have power and thus MUST exercise it to fill whatever sad, empty, vacuum of darkness they have in themselves. Same people, different setting. Today it’s “gun violence.” Before Newtown much of their abuse in their little schoolhouse fiefdoms centered on sexual harassment and bullying (still does). But rest assured, no matter the issue, these control freaks masquerading as “teachers” have always plagued us. They sink to environments where their innately despotic disorders can find places to flourish and people to intimidate and mistreat. And we must fight them in every case; in every instance where an innocent child is sent home for some inane, harmless reason, punished for just being a kid, we must fight and deny these tyrants’ exploitation of their supposed power.
Indeed, this piece has been a bit personal, for I will always remember Mrs. Dubois and mini depots like her, but certainly not for the reasons she’d like. Mrs. Dubois has undoubtedly shuffled off this mortal coil by now. But I’m confident she has finally found her true home, not in some fifth grade classroom, but in some ugly guard tower, grimacing upon her prisoners in that grand gulag in the sky.
