The Putin/Obama Phenomenon: James Bond vs Steve Urkel

It’s not hard to tell that there is a power struggle that is going on between Obama and Vladimir Putin, and the world has taken notice. There has been a strange sort of respect going on for a communist dictator who would otherwise be trashed in the eyes of free Americans. Could it be that Americans think so little of Obama, that a Dictator could win their hearts?

On one hand you have the former KGB agent, Putin, who is seen as an uber masculine machine and a picture of physical strength and stamina. Photos have surfaced on the internet with him (shirtless) riding on the back of a horse and a photoshopped grizzly bear in the wild; an image that would suggest he’s a real manly man. He is a proud Russian with a large ego and is precise about what he says and means and does what he says he will do.

On the other hand, you have Obama, the former community organizer, who is seen as a mom-jeans-wearing “Steve Urkel” type. Instead of horses and bears, he prefers a Daisy 3 speed bike and a safety helmet as his means of transportation. Instead of shooting big-boy guns, Obama tries his hand at golf, being sure to strike a pose for the paparazzi cameras watching.

Obama tells lies to American citizens and has to write executive orders to get anything he wants done because he can’t rally support from his constituents. He runs away from foreign policy matters like a frightened child. Even Jimmy Carter was slightly more persuasive when it came to foreign policy; an extremely frightening thought. These are two very different portraits of a man and leadership in the eyes of the world.

In a speech Putin made in 2012, he made it clear what his stance on illegal immigration was:

First, we must refuse entry to Russia (for five to ten years and maybe more) to those who have been caught on repeated flagrant violations of migration legislation or have been expelled from the country by a court decision. Second we must toughen penalties against those who encourage illegal immigration. Russia must not be a country that anyone can enter whenever and however he likes…we must create the conditions for immigrants to normally integrate into our society, learn Russian and, of course, respect our culture and traditions and abide by Russian law.

Clearly Russia takes a hard-nosed stance on illegal immigration and what it means to become a Russian.

In America, there are thousands of illegal undocumented aliens breaking laws and hopping fences daily. There are no punishments for these criminals, and instead they get rewarded. If they come to America they know they would most likely receive a Social Security number, making them eligible for Social Security benefits, welfare benefits, and even a driver’s license.

Obama even recruited illegals in the flagship state of California so that they could sign up for Obamacare. He is in favor of the Dream Act, a law that would allow the children of illegals privilege when it comes to legal status and education. Hardly close to the tough stance that Vladimir Putin takes when it comes to his country.

The perception of the two was even more boldly solidified first regarding Georgia, and most recently when the Syrian government crossed Obama’s “red line” warning he gave in 2012 when they used chemical weapons on their own people. Obama failed to act on his line drawn in the sand, this rendered him virtually powerless in the eyes of the world. Putin recognized his weakness, swooping in to save the day by getting the Syrian government to agree to disarm themselves of chemical weapons. Once again capitalizing on Obama’s blatant weakness as a leader and showing his command.

Putin has come to trust and even count on the fact that Obama will not act when faced with matters of foreign policy. In fact, he was laying all of his rubles on it regarding the situation in the Ukraine. Obama spoke with the Russian leader for 90 minutes trying to persuade him against military action in Crimea. Obama said that his actions would be “a clear violation of the Ukrainian Sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is a breach of international law”.

Putin responded with a swift backhand saying, “In the case of any further spread of violence to eastern Ukraine and Crimea, Russia retains the right to protect its interests and the Russian-speaking population of that area.

Clearly, Putin didn’t take Obama’s warnings seriously. Instead of a threat, Putin delivered a clear promise for Russian troops now surround Ukrainian bases and ships in Crimea. Putin even went as far as to accuse the U.S. of creating the trouble in the Ukraine saying, “They sit there across the pond as if in a lab running all kinds of experiments on the rats. Why would they do it? No one can explain it”.

Americans who have developed a strange misplaced respect for the Russian leader must always remember that he is a dictator who rules his people with an iron fist. Having the upper hand when it comes to the lack of leadership in Obama, one mustn’t confuse leadership with control and force. Russia has a rich history filled with oppression, totalitarianism, and ruling by sheer terror. A scenario that, with the decisions Obama has forced upon Americans during his presidency, isn’t far behind for the U.S.
