FERGUSON, MO SHOOTING? Worse Things to Come?
By now, the majority of you have seen on the news, read about or have experienced the situation that’s going on over in Ferguson, Missouri. If you haven’t, you may be living under a rock! In the wake of the death of a local black man, eighteen year-old Michael Brown, it feels as though in an instant Armageddon had descended upon the town. What reportedly started off as a peaceful protest, turned into a scene out of a war movie, with the police looking more like the military than police officers. The militarization of police equals big issues.
Businesses are being looted from the weave shop to the tire store. People are jumping onto and kicking police cars, throwing blood-like substances onto the windshield. Rocks and Molotov cocktails are being thrown at the police. Buildings are being set ablaze! What would cause a human being to have such savage behavior? What goes on in the mind of a person willing to steal and pillage from their own neighbors even if they are angry over what happened? The answer is simple, they have no right! They can be mad, they can seek justice if it warrants justice, but there is no excuse for behaving like sheer savages!
Michael Brown was shot and killed on Saturday by a local police officer. To be frank, that’s really all we know for sure. There is speculation about what happened. One version of what happened was offered from the police department. Allegedly, the police officer who shot Brown encountered him and another man on a street in Ferguson. One of the men pushed the officer back into his car when he exited it. This man tried to go for the policeman’s gun. The policeman fired a shot from inside the vehicle, hitting Brown. The scuffle continued, outside of the vehicle where the remaining shots were fired, killing Brown.
Now, they do have eye witnesses that were allegedly on the scene. The witnesses claim Brown never entered the police car and that there was no struggle for the officers gun. They reported that it appeared as though brown was pushing the officer off of him while the officer was trying to get Brown into the police car. The shot went off and Brown broke free from the officer. Brown took off running and the cop ran after him and fired again. Brown allegedly put his hands up, but the officer kept firing, eventually killing Brown.
Two very different stories indeed. We don’t even know who the officer was that Killed Michael Brown. Apparently they are not releasing the name because there are death threats to him and his family. This is undoubtedly a racially charged issue, bringing in the godly presence of Al Sharpton to offer up his hand at the race card. The Black Panthers offering up their list of demands, one of which is a charge of murder. Obama once again interjecting, releasing a statement offering his condolences to Brown’s family. Maybe Brown looks like Obama’s son, too? What about the other black youth that are dying on our streets everyday, where is the rioting for them? Where is the Presidential sentiments for them?
All of this chaos and mayhem and nobody even has the details. Hardly seems rational. Then again, when you have a racially charged issue right from the start, nothing going forward will really be rational. If the cop is found to be guilty, then let justice be served. If he is found Innocent and the outcome isn’t what the community or Al Sharpton want, Lord have mercy on his soul.
