FREE SPEECH ASIDE … Progressives’ Making Excuses for Radical Islam’s Crimes

Terrorists – not lone wolves or misguided actors – shot up a Draw Muhammad event in Garland, Texas.

The response from progressives? Free speech aside, did the Draw Muhammad event ask for the attack it suffered? Was the event too provocative for it’s own good?

In other words, it’s no different than asking whether a rape victim brought it upon herself for appearing a certain way in public.

More worrisome is the haste with which progressives are willing to cast free speech aside in order to exonerate radical Islam’s role.

Let’s face it, a cabal of radical Mormons didn’t open fire on those who turned The Book of Mormon into a comedic article. Radical Christianity didn’t host an Inquisition when excrement was rendered as the image of Mary – or when a Crucifix was submerged in urine, photographed, and entitled “Piss Christ”. Scarcely a peep is heard when caricatures of Christians are lambasted in our entertainment. Same goes for the media’s treatment of the Catholic Church and their tendency to equate Catholicism with all denominations of Christianity.

Artists did those things. No different was the Draw Muhammad event. It was art. Street theater. Free expression.

For progressives, free expression only goes so far. In Garland, Texas they’ve already gone on the record saying cast it aside lest we trouble radical Islam with our speech.
