Ruth Institute Statement on the US Supreme Court Ruling on Obergefell v. Hodges
The Ruth Institute opposes the short-sighted decision of the US Supreme Court mandating that every State remove the gender requirement from their marriage laws. This decision undermines the natural right of every child to know the identity of their own parents, and as far as possible, to be in a relationship with and to be raised by both their mother and their father.

President Obama asserted today that “we are a people who believe that every single child is entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” This ruling in fact deprives children of their most basic birthright: the right to know and be loved by their own parents. No amount of legal mumbo-jumbo or cultural happy-talk can fully compensate for this fundamental structural injustice.

The Obergefell decision tacitly declares that invented rights of adults take precedence over natural rights of children. The policy of the United States government will henceforth be to take sides with “intended parents” in disputes with natural parents, and against the legitimate interests of children to their own genetic and cultural heritage. The Supreme Court has surreptitiously redefined parenthood as a side effect of redefining marriage. Today’s ruling shamefully robs children of “equal protection under the law.”

The majority of the Court sidesteps these inevitable logical consequences of their decision. The Court prefers to keep its eyes on its claim that “the right to marry is a fundamental right inherent in the liberty of the person, and under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment couples of the same-sex may not be deprived of that right and that liberty.”

While we are appalled by this decision, we commend the courage and good sense of Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito. These far-sighted men affirm that each State may make its own policy with respect to the definition of marriage. In so doing, they stand up for the rights of children to know their own parents, and the rights of the people of the States to govern themselves. These courageous Justices stand for the ordinary people of this country, against the sexual revolutionary project of the Elites of both parties.

The Ruth Institute helps the survivors of the Sexual Revolution to recover from their negative experiences and share their stories with the younger generation. We reach out to the Children of Divorce, the Reluctantly Divorced, Post-Abortive Women, Donor Conceived Persons and many other groups of people, who have been victimized by the toxic ideology of the Sexual Revolution. We fully expect that the Obergefell decision will produce another crop of victims. We stand prepared to assist them as well.

The Ruth Institute calls on the federal government and the governments of the states to enact the following measures:
— Record accurately the genetic parents on every birth certificate, for every child. The State should not be hiding or falsifying information on legal documents.
— End Third Party Reproduction.
— Place responsible limits on divorce where children are present and where no marital fault has been committed.

42 years after Roe v. Wade, the majority of the country opposes abortion — the ultimate structural injustice to children. Future generations will come to their senses and realize the injustice that a genderless marriage institution inflicts on children. But when those people of the future overturn today’s ruling, not a single child born motherless or fatherless in a gender-neutral marriage will get their missing parent back. The structural injustice to children will be deep and permanent.

The thin disguise of “marriage equality” will not fool anyone. Nor will it atone for the wrong this day done.
