TIME TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE–Sanctuary Cities and Illegal Immigrants

Recently, a woman in San Francisco named Kate Steinle was shot to death by an illegal immigrant named Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez (who had previously been deported from the United States on five separate occasions). In addition, the murder weapon happened to a gun stolen from a federal agent. Details are sketchy as to how a federal agent’s firearm wound up in the hands of an illegal immigrant, as well as if the shooting was intentional.

But as the investigation into the fatal shooting continues, one thing is clear: Lopez-Sanchez was able to carry out this crime and keep returning to America without any fear of the authorities apprehending him because San Francisco is a sanctuary city.

Just what is a sanctuary city? It is any city or other locality in the United States or Canada that decides not to enforce federal immigration laws, particularly by forbidding local law enforcement or other local officials from inquiring about one’s immigration status. Thus, the locality become a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, who can do whatever they want without having to face deportation or arrest for sneaking into this country.
Some of these illegal immigrants have went on to commit crimes, including murder. So if these cities have not adopted sanctuary policies, then those people who were killed by illegal immigrants might still be alive today.

There are many cities in America that have adopted sanctuary policies. They include the following: Washington, D.C., New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Jose, Oakland, Salt Lake City, El Paso, Houston, Detroit, Chicago, Miami, Minneapolis, Denver, Baltimore, Seattle, Portland, and Newark.

So just why are officials in these cities giving sanctuary for illegal immigrants? Do they believe that enforcing federal immigration laws is a form of racism? Do they think immigration laws are unjust? Or maybe they see illegal immigrants as potential voters who will can keep them in office? There is little doubt that a majority of the local officials who advocated these policies are leftists.

There have been calls for ending federal funding to these sanctuary cities, but other than that, hardly anything has been done to crack down on them (despite the fact that these cities are enacting policies in violation of federal law).

Considering the amount of crimes committed by illegal immigrants in these sanctuary cities, I am surprised the victims of such crimes (or their next of kin) have not attempted to bring a lawsuit against their respective cities. I can tell you that is what I would do. And if I was not able to do it, I would be a thorn in the side of such city officials, whether it be making my voice heard at city council/commission meetings, calls for repeal of such policies, or running against such officials/supporting their challengers come election year.

At any rate, these cities need to repeal their sanctuary policies.
